Conceptual intake (ideas)

I'm bored at work, and I'll probably have another sleepless night.

I finally managed to find a BMW performance intake dyno, where it was shown the majority of gains are on the low end, while something like the AFE Box was more of a top end gainer - why?
What could we make/build to have the dynamics of both?



(I'm literally bored to tears here, give me some ideas)

The Perf inake has like 17% larger air hole into the box ( NA or Euro) from the front of the grilles with lots of air movement, not to mention in the rear of box there is a hole. The lid has less Egg crate grid than euro lid

AFE closed box uses OEM snorkel and adds a hole at headlight back area where there is no air movement
EuroMod has the same idea as the AFE - cut a hole in closed box

The idea you seek is - a larger air snorkel hole and a hole in the box @ headlight bottom

On the USDM box, is it possible to run the performance intake AND the Dinan mod? It looks like the US PI only uses half of the box?

As far as I know, the ridges in the box lid are for rigidity, so I don't think they will effect the flow too much.

Shrug. Was this US spec or euro?

Easily the most pointless part of my modding, but filter changes are easy at least.

US Perf box does reuse OEM half with Maf
So charcoal delete Plus a filter is almost a USA Perf box.

Adding Dinan may not be possible to US PErf box because Dinan corner my not fit 100%. So a custom mod is needed

The last hurdle is the Snorkel - usa Stock box needs to be modded to make one fit

Best idea no one has tried is taking the EuroMod to the next level: Long tube intake

Use USA MAF half or Ebay Maf cylinder, Connect mount for silicone or PVC 45/90 degree bend and attach cone at the bottom
There should be enough clearance on e9x, less on e8x

Alternatively one can run the cone in place of the snorkel and have filter at Grille
the filter would need to be skinny like this:

Another idea is simply an OPEN USA BOX
That USA box and CUT off all but the Bracket that seals & holds the filter in place = e46 m3 csl style
