I just dropped the oil for the second time and used BMW synthetic 5w-30 this time. First oil change (@ 1,500km) I used Mobil 0-40, but it's too cold here to run that in the winter (don't need 40-weight oil at -30C).
I'm anal about oil changes, and will likely continue to change it every 5000km. BTW .... the oil that came out this last time (at 6,500km, with 5000km's on it) was very dark / dirty. While I'm sure there are some here that believe synthetic oils only need to be changed every 15-20K km's, I'm more concerned about contaminants in the oil that reduce its effectiveness. The cost of an oil change is cheap compared to the piece of mind I get |

Mobil1 0w 40.
Worked great in my GLI and works great in my 335. My engine loved to drink up the castrol 5w 30, but I haven't needed to add any 0w 40.

I plan to use a 0w/40 in winter and 5w/40 in summer. RP. Not sure what to do with the yearly free change.
