Should I be able to take a stock Camaro SS?
I did a few runs with a stock 2012 or so Camaro SS and we were really close. He beat me twice when he got the jump and I beat him once when nobody got the jump. I wasn't doing the best shifting at 5100 sometimes hit 6k but I was suprised I couldn't catch him. We were like even. I'm FBO Jb4 and 40% E85 but have bad tires. Does that sound normal?

I think you should be able to take them if they're 100% stock.

I had a '12 Camaro SS before my N55 so I know that platform really well. Those cars will run mid 12's bone stock with some decent tires and a good driver. Manuals are especially fast when going from a roll.
If you're FBO and he took you, I'd bet he has a few minor mods. |

what speed did you start and end? and what gear did you start and end? Could be different gearing in his favor. Also, I am not convinced short shifting at 5100 is best...do you have a dyno plot?
You really need to calculate your shift point from your dyno and your gearing, just because torque drops off after 5100 doesnt mean its best to upshift. Maximum acceleration at any given speed happens when you maximize horsepower, not torque.

Wow I have to look into the shifting thing then because when I shift at 5100 ish my boost goes to like 18-19 but at 6k it's a little over the half mark which is a few less. We did one run from like 30 another from like 20 and the last one was from 0-135 we were pretty even the whole way. It's possible he wasn't stock but I doubt he would lie lol not like we were racing for money. Either way I need to get my car on the dyno and get some new Hankook tires.

+1 Michelin PSS cant go wrong! i raced a new camaro ss when i was only jb4 intake and catless dp on map 2 and dusted him by about 2 cars. now that i have an upgraded turbo, fbo and e85 i think it would be a sad day for every single "stock" camaro ss driver who wants to run my 335 funnest part about the guy who raced me was when we got done he asked me if i had a V8lol i should have just told him i had a 4 banger

Weight is less of a factor from a roll, if I remember currently they have trapped 109+ stock with a good driver. From a roll with the huge torque and super long gears(talking 160 in 4th gear) they will pull very nicely at speed. If you think about it, if he got the jump on you, you would have to make enough power to stop his pull, nevermind reel him in and pass him.
