whine at idle....ideas ????
I have notice that at idle I can hear a faint whine. As soon as the revs are raised it goes away. The car performs normally otherwise, any ideas ?

Thanks chaps. I thought the wife would be suggested but the whining gets a whole lot louder with the revs raising when the wife is in the car. This whine I am on about is faint at idle and stops as soon as the revs rise. It's not a squeal so alas the AC belt is not slipping.

The only solution I found to this problem is to let the car warm up then turn off the engine and then on again and the whine disappears. Hope this helps. |

Maybe check the power steering pump? I know they usually will whine at higher rpm also but it may be worth checking out?

the sound is similar to when you put the power steering under load but it only makes the noise at idle as soon as the revs rise above 1000rpm it completely gone, not worse

I heard the smaller turbo whine for the first time. It was 21F outside. I only heard it at idle and it did increase pitch with rpms. Waited a minute to get the fluids warm before I left. Did not hear it when I got to work.

I hear the small turbo whine too and as you say it goes away when warmed up. This whine is here cold or warm and never goes away at idle
