Looking to know difference between diamond cut and normal silver if any alloy gods can help.

many thanks
I think the inert section of the wheel is black and the face is diamond cut. People tend to get a lot of problem keeping them in good condition especially with the winter we have coming. What colour is your car?

I though diamond cut was stripping right back to the metal then laquering over the top. Correct me if I'm wrong.

That a good deal though for 19" rims. I paid £220 to have 4 18"s in gunmetal. Think I got robbed lol!

Diamond cut are machined down to the bare metal smooth finish the lacquered on top

Painting em in silver is painting em in silver

Diamond cut looks a world apart, not mirror finish but is a smooth aluminum finish but are a pain in the behind to maintain

imo diamond cut is worth the pain and effort
looks a mile apart and 313s wouldn't be done justice painted silver, Would look... shit... in my opinion of course

I'm looking at getting a refurb after winter. £100 for all 4 sounds like a deal! PM me if you don't mind sharing details.

Diamond cut means the face of the wheels are machined on a lathe using a "diamond" cutting insert.

The machining process gives the wheel the bright aluminium finish face.

They have to lacquer to seal the wheels again, and this seems to be the biggest issue.

Diamond cut is very in fashion in the automotive world at present.

Personally, I wouldn't bother - as someone mentioned above.

Even OEM diamond cut wheels have a hard time staying looking good.

so the answer to the original question.

diamond cut is bare metal and then (in most cases) lacquered. it looks like the back of a CD with miniscule lines in the metal where they have been 'cut'
with the 313's (i believe) just the outer faces of the spokes are cut, and then the rest of the wheel is actually painted.
the bare metal has kind of a darkish tone to it.
Diamond cut is trickier to maintain, especially in winter. If you scrape one of chip the lacquer then the wheel will quicker look naff compares to the others.

when you say plain silver, Im assuming you mean just painted silver. You cannot get the same colour silver from paint as you do from diamond cut. It looks lighter, and like a silver paint.
you can get different color paint products, so a chrome effect for example, but they dont quite look the same.

have a look at the lepsons website gives you a range of different colors and is a decent guide
http://www.lepsons.com/photo-gallery/

I guess you could also have them stripped of any existing paint and then polished as bare metal, but that would be a total pain in the backside.

Have a look at my wheels thread from a few weeks ago - I've got some pics where you can see the light bouncing off the diamond turned face creating the CD effect mentioned above.

Diamond turned, or diamond cut, or just machined, is a very different finish to just silver painted. I suggest you see it in person if you never have, as it's one of those that photos will never do justice. It's often used on a dark painted wheel to create the two-tone effect which OEMs are using more and more these days.

Diamond turned is also different to polished.
