RMP motors WP change put in green coolant

I know RMP Motors is a well known and recommended shop on here so I went to them to do my water pump and thermostat

Back in August I called and tried to schedule an appointment to get my water pump and thermostat replaced. After talking a bit the guy hung up on me. At first I thought the call got dropped but I called back again immediately. Someone picked up and hung up on me again.

Anyways things got sorted out with me and Rocco and I scheduled my car in to do the WP + Thermo state change. I provided them with the water pump + thermo state kit I got from Tischer BMW and the BMW coolant as well and 2 jugs of distilled water.

Just today I went to Kosta from KTM Motowerks to get my oil filter housing gasket changed. I just got a call from him saying my coolant is green and not blue like the BMW coolant.

Here are some pics

Is BMW coolant supposed to be green or blue? Did RMP put in the wrong coolant even though I gave the BMW coolant 1 gallon jug I bought from Tischer BMW?

BMW should be blue. No harm in running green though, most modern coolants are phosphate free or whatever BMW requires. I'm running green right now - have a jug of BMW blue coolant ready for future use. Have been running non BMW coolant for 1.5 years, no problems.

But I would be troubled that you provided BMW coolant and they didn't use it. It's not a cost issue, BMW coolant isn't that much more than non. It's still strange that they didn't use the product you provided.

I agree, have you brought forth the issue with Rocco?

I know RMP is well known in the BMW community and I'd like to see an explanation for this....

I'm not going to bother. I don't trust the shop anymore.

You know what I got the coolant changed maybe a month or two earlier before getting the water pump replaced by Ivo from Columbus Auto. Yah I made a mistake and wasted money doing that but I didn't know if I was going to replace the water pump or not at the time

I also wont be going back there. He may be a good mechanic but his attitude and awkward situations he creates when he screams profanities at his other staff turn me right off.

I can understand everyone has a bad day, but every single time it's the same story.

Guys, I've been going to Rocco for few years and while he's very 'passionate' he's ALWAYS provided me and any other customers that I've witnessed with EXCELLENT work without even a hint of sub par work... I find him extremely trustworthy... in the instance of the coolant, was it a complete flush? 'cause the bus/green issue is with everyone... the color doesn't denote quality, it denotes a DYE.

Maybe possible your car had green in already from IVO? I believe green and blue can be mix anyway , as long silicate free etc.

Maybe the blue colour cannot overpower green since only top up after wp change?
Like grape bimmer state RMP only do good work for me and my friends, why would they take your coolant?

It could be Ivo, I'm not sure. Do you flush the coolant when doing a water pump? Would RMP have notice it was green when they did the water pump?

Funny this topic came up , I was at the dealer tuesday getting some maintenance under warranty and the technician asked me why I had green coolant instead of the blue. I told him that I did a coolant flush not too long ago at RMP , he was also surprised rmp did not used BMW coolant

I ll call rocco tomorrow and ask him whats type of coolant he is using...

I was reading Zerex G-05 is also compatible with BMW and it is green. The other green coolant that I know of is prestone all models...

I ll be more inclined to Zerex G-05 since it is pretty popular in the BMW community and a lot of people have used it and I know it meets bmw requirements.

Prestone all make all models has also been used before by a lot of bmw drivers and some swear by it, however I dont think Rocco would used that

You are not the only one who has done a coolant reflush , I also have green if it makes you feel better ....

Again I ll call rocco and ask , the dealer was trying to make me pay to have it reflush again ..

I'm sure the green is fine to use but what I'm having a problem understanding is why they didn't use the coolant he provided them?

unless of course, it takes more than a gallon to fill and bleed the system in which event they might have topped it off with green

All this about friggin' Green VS Blue coolant (it's a DYE PEOPLE)...

and all you guys do is mod your cars with aftermarket stuff... well, that ain't 'authorized' BMW parts either! Yup, change those rotors, swap those springs... what? wanna change your lenses to depots?

What oil are YOU using? Have you tasted it? Does it taste like BMWCoolaid? I thought not...

Move on 'cause there ain't nothin;' to see here....

They use HEPU coolant or additive. They have a website and all ... I spoke to one of the guys.
All I know is the low coolant light came on at 15 000 km with the bmw blue magic coolant . RMP reflush my system at 18000 and now Im at 30 000 with not light anymore. I ll leave it alone

I don't think that's the point. OP provided BMW coolant to the shop, shop then uses something else. It's not going to hurt the car, but it's somewhat unprofessional. There's just no reason to not use the coolant the customer provided since the shop's not even paying for it. Unless they simply forgot.

I personally run Prestone coolant right now, it's fine. But if I take BMW coolant to a shop and ask them to use it; if they agree, I expect to see BMW coolant in the system.

But if they add an additive to the coolant then it would dye all the coolant?? ... Only thing I can think of

We don't know the whole story... was the system flushed? was the system just topped up after parts replaced? What fluid was in before? Did RMP return the containers? Did OP ask for the original containers back? Is their a god?

Has ANYONE had issues with RMP putting in cheap parts or fluids? I think not.

If I gave a shop a certain coolant, I'd expect them to use it. Why would I go out of my way to supply a specific brand and type to them and just have them dump the "green stuff" in? Mixing coolant types is something the coolant manufacturers all say you can do, but it's not best practice. There is a difference between typical green coolant and Zerex G05. Most green coolant is only rated for 2 years of use while Zerex G05 for example is good for 5 years/ 150k miles (240k km's). If your system is currently filled with BMW blue coolant then that's what I would want it topped off with. If you wanted to switch to some other type have it all flushed out and replaced with the new coolant of your choosing.

The green blue mix will not harm the engine as long as nitrate and phosphate free.

You CANNOT mix blue and green with Red!

We would have no reason not to use the OP coolant.

Plus the OP could have just called and we could have explained this.

RMP Motors
could you clarify what type of coolant do you guys usually used?... I also have green and shawn said something about Hepu coolant , but I went to their side and had a quick peak , it looks like its an additive...

Im just curious to know since rmp also did my reflush and the dealer was asking a lot of question of why I was not using the blue stuff...
