The award for worst drag racing with V2 goes to....
ME
This afternoon brunodkid99 (Tomas) and I drove the 100+ miles down to Rockingham Dragway. Most people think this place fell off the map....maybe it just did We get there are there is no more then about 30 people running their cars, motorcycles, dirt bikes, atvs and so forth. Before heading out, I installed 2.0.2 and let it fully adapt. Settings were at 92% on 93 octane. I wanted to data log at this point, but it kept telling me the file was corrupt. My digital boost gauge told me I was hittng just shy of 15...but who knows with those things. So, I just had to assume it was high enough and roll with it. Temp was 52 deg (going down), running 275 Falkens on my Daytonas with a little headwind. I can count how many times Ive gone down the 1/4 mile on 2 fingers so bear with me. First run with DTC pushed one time. Car hooks up so so, I shift to second, power dies off and kicks back, I miss 3rd, get it in third, and run a extremely crappy 13.5. with a 106+ trap. Somewhere in there was the CDV making it seemingly impossible to get it into gear as well. I immediately felt like I was driving on slick mush. Second run I asked a very experience drag racer (with a 335) how he was launching his 6MT. He said kick off the DTC completely and dump around 2 grand or so feathering the clutch. I tried that (sorta) and the car didnt move so much. Just sat there spinning, bounced off the revlimer with tons of wheel hop, shifted to second, hit the rev limiter hardly moving, then started to move some hahha. Chris (the experience guy) lauched his bone stock E90 with DTC completely off and ran a 13.4 with almost no wheel spin. 3rd run and 4th run the same for me...suck suck with zero traction and tons of wheel hop. I actually have a video if anyone wants to laugh their ass off. 5th run (or was it 6th). I realized traction just wasnt going to happen.... period. DTC went back on. I took off pretty lightly, hit second well (even though) and hit third well and ran this... R/T .204 60' 2.084 330 5.622 1/8 8.577 (83.37) 1000 11.104 1/4 13.202 MPH 106.77 (WTF?) Ok, I know I suck, but 106mph trap? Whats up with that? Isnt that not far from a stock trap? I mean, head to head with a stock 335 its not even close doing a 3rd --> 4th gear pull. We had a chance to do a few of them on the way home. Anyway, Ive leared a few things. 1) Dont go drag racing when the ponds you drive past on the way there are FROZEN. 2) Get some DR's 3) Learn how to launch On the plus side, I had a good time, and was happy to meet some nice local E-9x guys. |

Haha... sounds like you guys had a good time at the track! This kind of makes me wish that I would have drove there instead of being in coilover hell all day long installing this suspension.
We should make the next meet at Carolina Motorsports Park this way none of us will have to know how to launch at the roadcourse.

haha......sounds like you had fun nonetheless! I had much the same experience my 1st time w/ Procede at the track. You just need to practice w/ different tire pressures and launch techniques. Remember you have a lot more power than the stock 335 so you can't launch the same, you are overpowering your tires. Don't dump the clutch, feather it and roll on the power as much as you can so your just shy of ripping the tires loose. they should spin a bit in 1st gear, but not rip loose. I managed a 1.91 60 ft w/ the stock RFT doing this w/ V1.47 which has the notorious TQ spike aruond 3krpms making launching even worse.
As you said, not the best time to be at the track w/ frozen ponds nearby. You should have been skiing.

Sorry, but your 60 foot times are fine...... Is there something wrong with your car?? If a stock E90 ran 13.4 and you just did a 13.2 with a 2 second 60 foot time......this suggests something wrong with your car.

Tbone, what do you think is wrong? The car runs hard and fast as balls when not from a dead stop. My only question was about the trap speed. Keep in mind, I was running with DTC on, and (for lack of a better explanation) power was getting cut between shifts as well. Does everyone else leave DTC on as well? |

You should be in the 12's with a low 2 second 60 foot time. Also your traps are off other V2s.

if your losing power between shifts and having troubles w/ your CDV then you need to address that first. Change out that CDV and figure out how to shift your car faster. I found not fully letting off the gas at shiftpoints helps keep power more linear during shifts. I hate Throttle by Wire setups because of that lag.
and yes, get the DTC off it will intervene even when you don't realize it.

Tbone, I agree about the 12 sec thing.
Sniz has the right idea though. DTC was killing it pretty good. I never even got a chance to do a full run with it completely off. After the car sat and spun through 2 gears I gave up and just puttered to the other end of the track. Spring time I'll throw on a set of DR's and hopefully RISS's f-in down pipes will be here so I can go back for another whirl. |

You are either shifting at too low an rpm, hitting the rev limiter between shifts, shifting too slow (most likely), or have a power problem (unlikely with your superior highway pulls).
Don't waste money on DR's yet. Learn to drive the car with stock tires. In my old cobra, you didn't lift off the gas for the 2-3 and 3-4 shifts. Push the gear shift lever toward the next gear with ~50 lbs of force. When the shift light goes off, kick you left foot down into the clutch and when as the clutch hits the floor, slide your left foot to the left so the clutch pedal pops back up. Who says the steptronic shifts faster than the manual! |

Re-looking at this. Its ironic how when dumping the clutch at a high RPM "trying" to burn out, that it caught traction.
Then 4 seconds later I try to take off for real and go no where. Wow, I really do suck! (DTC complete OFF) (DTC on, at least it went somewhere). Not too sure whos talking on the video. |

ASS
Yup I agree. I've drag raced 2 other times with a FWD car with nitrous and my 350z. I never had a single problem with them, most likely because it was great weather, and the cars didnt make all that much power. Next time it will be better |
