N54 oil pressure too low light; 2A7C and 3100 codes
hello there. Two days ago i went to start my car on a cold morning and got a oil pressure too low light and half engine light. Turned the engine off and restarted it .. everything was fin no light no nothing .. car drive just like usual.
After parking it for about 8 hours went to start it again and BAM! same s*it happens oil pressure too low and half engine light. pulled out the codes and it came up as 2A7C (no description found) and 3100. left the car like that overnight and the next day, i pulled the vanos solenoids, cleaned them and changed the oil and filter hoping it would fix my problem but no luck. next step is to replace the vanos solenoids which i will do tomorrow since the 2A7C is a vanos related code if i'm right and the codes disappeared the other day. i was hoping somebody had a similar issue or can contribute with anything and if a faulty vanos solenoid can cause the low oil pressure light to come up. My car has 118000KM and i have JB4, DP's, DCI and a muffler delete. |

Replace both solenoids, change oil, and reset adaptations. You should be good after that. If not, next step is cam bearing ledge, but this is rare.

Low oil pressure is bad. Has no relation to an oil leak, vanos solonoids etc. Low oil pressure is caused by either a failing oil pump or crankshaft bearing wear. Drain the oil into a pan. If it is sparkly, motor is done.

And what about the 2A7C code I'm getting ? Does that just mean that the vanos is just not getting enough oil pressure and throwing that code ? |

Low oil pressure will through vanos codes since there won't be enough oil pressure to opperate. Did you install the small O ring when you changed the oil filter? Improper O ring/filter install can give you this symptom.

What oil brand and weight are you running?
Also, what was the low temperature reading overnight?

I'd clean the vanos with compressed air. Also check your oil filter cap make sure the tip that goes in the center is not broken.(where the small oring goes). I read that you are replacing the vanos, how did that go? Oil pressure sensors rarely go bad but if you'd like to change it its $14 at autozone and $24 at the dealership. Any other codes?

Little update on my problem. So went to the dealer, got a new solenoid and went back to my car and replaced it. Car strarts nothing changed appart from that I no longer had a 2A7C code but a 2A98. I let the car run for a bit and held the throttle at 900rpm. After 8-10 min car holds idle by itself but I still had the half engine light on. Stopped the engine and restarted and poof no codes no nothing car runs good took it for a good long drive and everything is good. So from what I figured so far my problem is only when the oil is cold, once it warms up a but the car runs like magic. Any insights ?

maybe a crankshaft sensor. did you replace both vanos or just one. Cold start the oil is thicker flows slower when it warms it thins out. so no more low oil pressure?
2A98: 2A98 Crank shaft - inlet camshaft, correlation Error will cause a warning light Error is not currently present Test conditions have not been completed Short circuit or signal interruption |
