Anyone know of a fix for an E92 rattling rear center tray?

Hey guys... I have searched and have only found people talking about having a rattle in their rear center tray in the E92, but I haven't heard of a fix for it. The only thing that I have read is that some people tried leaving the tray open (the tray that is in between the two rear seats on the E92). I tried this and it cured the rattle for a little less than a week, but now it is back with a vengence! Ever since I put my exhaust on the car it makes an extremely annoying rattle around 2,000rpm that makes you want to smash the rear console with a hammer. Has anyone removed this tray before? I thought of removing the lid alltogether so that there will be nothing to rattle, but I couldn't figure out how to pry it apart. Any suggestions would be appreciated... this rattle is driving me insane!

I filled mine with napkins, to where it could barely close. It seems to work.

Haha... ok, good idea. I tried using double sided tape, but it was either too thin where it did nothing or too thick to shove in there.

Even though this is an issue on bone stock cars also... I know that if I bring my car to the dealer they will just blame my exhaust for it and give me a hard time. If I could figure out how to remove this center tray I would just unbolt the cover that slides over the top of the console since I don't use it anyway.

Just leave it open and will not make any more noise.

put velcro the nice side where ever the rattling is originating from. this is what they do on the convertibles. Im actually trying to locate a rattle in the rear when I go over bumps. Maybe the rear drink storage is causing my rattle

Thanks orb, but I tried that and it only worked for a week. Now the rattle is back worse then ever.

I actually removed the rear center console, lined up the tray on both sides with felt tape (thin) and some velcro to eliminate the noise. It is a tight fit, but the tray is useable such as opening and closing it. You just pull out the tray, get a torx driver and dis-assemble the tray. Put the felt tape and velcro to make it nice and snug. Screw everything back in and put the tray back. I acutally found a little DIY from a few months ago and will see if I can find it. A buddy of mine actually just removed the whole tray cover and that stopped the noise completely

Thank you for the link. That is exactly what I was looking for.

I might just end up leaving the cover off completely once I see how it looks since I have a black interior anyway. Thanks again.

SOLVED!

I just pulled my tray out (as per the link above) and carefully lined the back of the lid with black electrical tape - and even ran a strip down each side underneath the runners. Very tight fit to get the lid back in - but now it is absolutely silent!

Better than taking the lid out. I looked at this and it leaves a 1 inch gap for which items could fall into - you would have to pull the tray out to get them back...

Very happy!

Sounds good, I am surprised this isn't part of DIY sticky thread? Can the moderators/adminstrators add it?

I just put a balled up microfiber towel in there and it works perfect, and when ever I need to clean something, I just pull the towel out. Its my microfiber towel storage bin!

Some have put a tennis ball in it LOL...

I pulled the entire tray out... pretty easy and straight-forward. You can line your favorite material underneath to help with the vibration.

On another thread, someone said that the dealer will fix it under warranty. I'm gonna try the next time I bring it in. The worst they will say is that my aftermarket exhaust is too loud. However, for the record, it did rattle with my stock exhaust... just not that much LOL...

I wonder if E93's rear tray will fit E92's. Has this been tried yet?
