What reminds you to appreciate life?
It's a time of thanks, which I think is imperative to a sustainable life, but what are some things that really make you sink back and say...., its a beautiful world I live in?
Me? It's fall. The smell of "fall" itself when I ride on my motorcycle it just consumes my helmet. Nothing can replicate that scent. People burning a fire in their chimney with the smell of smoke. The smell of race fuel or burnt rubber on the cement. Meeting new people from all different backgrounds. Making a fool of myself. It's all fair game. This time of year from a northern perspective is perfect. If the weather is in the 60's or 70's I'm perfect for shorts. I wish the clock didn't have to turn back an hour, so fuck you to whoever did that. On my ride home though, the experience itself was enough to make me feel grateful. What about you? No work bullshit. No family shit. What are simple things from day to day that remind you of how life should be embraced? |

Excellent thread Billup!
To me its also autumn. I love putting candles on the porch and sitting there for hours. I wish I lived back home now more than ever, I truly miss stars and freezing my ass off by the lake while looking at them. I've never understood people who need big things to be happy. In my life the best times have always been the few moments that costs nothing but those times stay with me for always.

A big rack.
Whenever I go to a home goods or furniture store and I see the food racks and baker's racks and all the other racks it makes me think of family and the home and the importance of surrounding yourself with those with whom you are close and that you love. It makes me think of holidays and family gatherings that invariably center around the kitchen. All the amazing meals my Mom used to make. It's the thoughts of the people I love and care about that make me appreciate life. And big racks. |

Overnight snowfall that's seen first thing in the morning on a sunny day. You know, where you're the first to discover it...and the snow is just sitting on all the branches.
A really good sunset over the ocean too.

I think most of us are build to wait for the lottery win till we start living. Everyone seems to have a plan that will take place somewhere in the future and then everything will finally be perfect. I think I made my life perfect for me by accepting my faults and just letting go a lot.

A 15 minute gaze at the stars usually stops my mind and presses the reset button for me. I look to the stars for a reminder that, aside from all the terrible bullshit that goes on in this god forsaken planet, there is that reminder that were surrounded by beauty if you just look up.

Going for a sunset drive by the ocean.
Waking up to a beautiful sunrise. Making someone's day light up, a stranger, to tell them something nice, and seeing their face light up and knowing they are touched. Stopping by the Everglades and just enjoying the nature, the stars, and the sky. There is so much beauty in the world. |

This time of year for me also. I was just thinking about this when I got in the car this morning and they were playing Christmas songs on Magic 99.5 fm.....

I personally hate anything besides warm/hot weather, but all in all what keeps me grounded and grateful is knowing that so many others have so much less than me and how blessed I am. That and knowing I have a vision and ultimate goal in mind that I try and steer towards.
I know I may get flak for it but it also helps that I am somewhat religious and firmly believe that their is a purpose behind it all, the good and the bad. |

My way of complimenting is very different than others, so when I do it, the people will remember it. It is great to make someone feel good about themselves and younger women need this so much. I try to make someone feel good about themselves every day and they are never blonds, since let's face it, we don't need the ego boost ever. Go to a grocery store you are known (yeah, my stores know me for sure...) and tell the sales clerk she should for once try to look like shit so you wouldn't have to dress up to meet her. The smile you get is something else.

The first sip of coffee this morning was pretty incredible.
However, I did stumble into something odd that made me appreciate life. I had my window cracked and every morning I drive past this donkey farm, and for some reason, today it was really pungent and it made me choke on my coffee. Needless to say, I'm glad I didn't grow up to be a donkey farmer. |

Pig farms are the worst. We just visited a school for a grant project and the principal, in her directions to the school, told us it was "on the right just past the pig farm."
What an awful place to build a school. Although I suppose it motivates kids to do something besides pig farming.

Just in case no one mentioned bacon yet, I vote that too. I miss frying it on a stick for breakfast in a camp fire

Touche, Lups. Bacon indeed.
Those little umbrellas they put in your margaritas. The swords they give you in your martini so you can sword fight your friends. |

Well, besides bacon.... My job, no I dont make anywhere near 100k+ like you ballers. nor do I stay a home and brag about my significant other and not cooking. I still appreciate having a stable job and what it affords me to do, I could have nothing. Hell 8 years ago I was delivering pizza. |

Bacon was perfect this morning. It's freezing outside and I'm supposed to walk the dog now but instead I'm camped out in front of the fireplace with a cup of coffee and the dog got thrown out in the yard. I'd say I'm losing my toughness fast.

I would end up dead if I had to try to find a hair brush and a mirror every day to get food into me. Going out to eat is a waste of time in my books.

I live just on the edge of the city, I can hear the freeway going by down the block. But when the dog and I go out back to take a piss, and I look thru the fruit trees all arranged in front of the chicken coop, then glance up at the sky. Who even cares if I piss on my slippers, or the dog, or if I can find my pants!
One of the things I miss the most about my grandpa is that I don't get to go to the farm any more, smell the milking barn, the silage, the paddocks as we tractor off the week worth of shit/piss. To me, it smells like LIFE. And like I did Tuesday, when I go out and sweat my ass off turning soil, adding compost and manure and peat moss, then mixing it all together and running my hands thru that moist crumbly dirtness. Again, LIFE! |
