Front windshield tint + tint strip?
Gents,
I'm Looking at tinting my front windshield and wanted to add one of those tint strips along the top of the windshield to help conceal my V1 radar which us mounted above my rear view (that is the only reason I want the strip). Can someone post some pictures of their set up with this configuration? I have 35% all around and was thinking about going 50% on windshield with a 5% strip on top. I found a local reputable shop to do the tint strip for $10 and the windshield for $120 What do you guys think?

Don't think you should tint the windshield. Illegal everywhere and it's going to reduce your visibility a lot, strip is fine imo personally don't like tinting it all

Depending on what color your interior is, 50% will just look like a slightly darker solar coated windshield. In regards to reduced visibility at night, it's not that bad, you'll get used to it in a week. It reduces glare a lot from oncoming cars headlights. Those prices sound reasonable.

I would recommend only doing the strip, which is usually really dark like 5-15%. If you do tint the windshield it should be no darker than 90%. Just think, you have to look out of it at night, would be too much.

ive got a 5% windshield strip with 35% all around. my interior is black so it helps make my tint darker. there is no better feeling than knowing you wont get pulled over for tint. legal is the way to go. been pulled over for tint and had to remove it or just pay the fine but it just gives cops a reason to pull you over so just stick with the strip. it helps a lot

Guess I forgot to mention...On my last car I had all the windows tinted and the windshield as well; although I don't remember how dark I had it. It was awesome to drive during the day without sun glasses, but at night, sometimes it was a little tricky, but nothing too crazy. I drove from Los Angeles, CA to Atlanta, GA with my windshield tinted and had no problems. The only thing I did notice it that at the time, I had xeon headlights (G35) and I noticed that while driving at night, my headlights appeared to be dimmer than before (obviously with the tint) but other than that, it was ok.
I was asking mainly about having both (the stirp and the windshield tinted at the same time) I mostly want a tint strip to help hide/conceal my V1 radar thats mounted above my rear view mirror and BMW doesn't have tint strips from factory so its HIGHLY VISABLE from the outside. But since I use to have my windshield tinted, I considered doing that again and especially at the price ($120 here in NC) compared to ($200 which I paid in CA) I also messed up when I got my windows tinted originally because I went too light I think (35%) and my saddle brown interior doesn't help make it any different (like the other guy mentioned) so hopefully if I decide to tint the windshield it will help make the entire car darker and with the strip conceal my V1 detector.

It's no different than having headlights out or brake lights out or bald tires, etc and being in a accident. |

Sounds kinda weird, but I guess it wouldnt be that weird since a lot of cars come with the factory strip that is more of a blue tint. But I would say that the amber wouldnt do nearly as good of a job blocking the sun. You need something DARK for it to do the job, otherwise its more for looks than function, which is ok too I guess. Just my .02.

I figured that amber blocks out most of the blue light that distorts our vision from the sun, but perhaps I'm overthinking it just a bit ha ha |

But I would also suggest not getting the front windshield tinted just because at night it's not a good idea and what Wolf 335 and Westchester335i said. If an accident happens, your screwed. Just like with if someone has tinted tail lights. Someone rear ends you, you will end up paying for everything...
