Front suspension clunk when reversing

I've been searching and haven't found anything like this.

When I reverse and turn the wheel (usually left hand down) i hear a suspension clunk. Like its coming from the spring seating. Only in reverse and turning the wheel more than about half lock (i.e reversing out of a car space )

OEM M-sport suspension.

Anyone else had this?

Check that the bolts holding the steering rack haven't come loose.

Nah not yet mate, haven't had a chance to look. Doesn't do it going forwards, and I go forwards most of the time.

Open diff doesn't like to be sideways. Biggest downfall of the 335i. Shame BMW shame.

I used to drive a modified VE SSV commo and that thing was born sideways.

It's the brake callipers moving with reversing ! Nothing to be worried about but it's annoying !

If anyone is interested I managed to find a fix.

I replaced the anti-rattle retaining clips on the front calipers. Problem gone. They must have gotten weak over the years and the pad was moving a bit when reversing and turning.

Glad it wasn't suspension or steering rack. This only cost me $30.

If the 335i came out with an lsd... M3 sales would have gone down further

Reviving this thread because I'm having the same problem, and wanted to know if that fix you discovered has continued to work for you? That clicking sound on my 335i is very loud to my ears, and seems totally unnecessary.

Yep mine is still good, but for other people its either been the brake pads or the steering rack bolts so make sure to check those things too.

i'm on the same boat as you now harms. Is replacing the anti-rattle retaining clips easy? Only starting hearing this after getting my transmission fluid/pan replaced.

its a loud 'thunk' isnt it? and it only happens when you first put it into reverse after driving forward for awhile (eg, when you start the car and reverse, theres no thunk)?

I've had it for awhile now.

I've had it for awhile now.

I've always had the loud "thunk/clunk" when first putting it in reverse. Now when i reverse maybe half a meter, i hear a clunk/thunk also.
