Cost Of Cbu Prevention Mods
I have been looking at available information regarding several of the CBU prevention mods. I don't know if I have seen much info related to the cost involved in each of these procedures. I purchased a 2011 335d back in February 2014 from a dealer in Chicago with just over 21k on the odometer. I had an independent shop that I use change the brake fluid, power steering fluid, coolant, rear diff fluid to get it to a baseline. My local dealer replaced the battery under warranty due to issues with it. Another dealer at the vehicles final destination did the engine oil, fuel filter, air filter, wiper blades and both NOX sensors as the SES light came on. They also filled up the DEF. So the vehicle is really sorted out save the transmission fluid which I plan on changing at 30k. It would be nice to not have to worry about the CBU issues but what is involved price wise in doing meth injection kit or egr block or dpf delete? I guess for me I don't want to have the car throwing codes all the time and have to stare at the SES light all the time. I also don't want a trail of black smoke coming out of the back end like I am driving a school bus. So what are some available price ranges for these procedures vs just having the CBU clean done as another maintanence item every 50k or so? I have enjoyed the car so far with my limited use. I have put on maybe 6500 miles to this date. I may keep the car for some time or may dump it for something else. Thanks for any info that can be provided.

I average 31 mpg (and over 50 mpg hwy thanks to the VAC Motorsports control module!) so you can reverse engineer what that cost me. But I've almost got the car paid off and didn't buy an extended warranty that I didn't need. I have no urge to get rid of my d. K |

I'm in the same boat as the guy above. I'm at 65,000 miles and have used Motorcraft (Ford) Diesel Performance Enhancer and Cetane Booster. I buy it in bulk from the local Ford dealer and I have had no CBU since new, and its had the JBD at 100% since 28,000 miles.

I use the same product as Kaylin but for better power and also HPFP lubrication. I never associated the additive with less soot being produced. I gather that is what 2 of the posters above attributed to them not having CBU.
+1 to iaknown's question about looking at intake manifold. Now that catch can has been installed, my next step in my dastardly plan is intake cleaning via meth injection installation. The question is whether i preemptively pull the intake for cleaning or inspection. Basically, another data point to what Hooper showed to us (before and after meth injection installation). |

Newbie here, sub'd for more info. Also considering a 335D but wanting to gain as much knowledge as I can about CBU issues before taking the plunge.

I have a Snap-On BK6500 Borescope that Ive run down the intake manifold and I've physically looked at my EGR. I did this around 58K miles.

The EGR doesnt tell you jack, you need to look at the actual runners and the cylinder heads. My EGR looked a bunch better than my runners when I pulled the intake around 60k miles. I probably would have made it a lot further (20k+ I would guess) before I had any issues based on what I saw.

Well I've scoped the intake into two of the runners and I can tell you I'm not as bad as the people who've had driveability issues. If i was planning on long term ownership of this car I'd pull the intake and manually clean the deposits, however hopefully in a month or two this car will be traded in.

Not clear how a diesel fuel additive would effect CBU in the intake manifold on a direct injection engine. Could you elaborate? Perhaps it is the sea foam you're seeing the results of, assuming you're sucking that up pre-intake (and not just pouring it in the tank)? Thanks.
