CBU at 21,000 miles
We purchased a used 2011 335D a few weeks ago so I decided to take a look and see how much carbon has built up. The pictures were taken with a $14 borescope. Amazon linky
Here is a picture of the first turbo, a few inches away from where the CCV enters the intake. I didn't see any oil, it was spotless. If the CCV was introducing bypass oil shouldn't this be dirtier? Having 2nd thoughts about installing a catch can now. ![]() Here is a picture of the EGR valve. This doesn't look great. I couldn't get a good pic of the plastic intake area but when I removed the borescope it was covered in oily, black tar goo. ![]() I've got a can of the Liqui Moly Intake Cleaner. I'll spray that stuff next weekend. Can't really do meth or EGR block off because I'm in California and under warranty. |

You can certainly block off the EGR in CA. You just have to take the plates out before the smog test comes up.
Are you in Downey? Last edited by dixy2k; 11-24-2014 at 10:13 AM.. |

I am interested to see how the liqui moly intake cleaner performs.
I am thinking at first cleaning the intake by removing it and dipping it in a chemical bath degreaser. Then I use the liqui moly cleaner. This way there will much less CBU ingested by the engine, the only stuff going into the cylinder is the CBU built-up in the engine intake runners. |
