Catless headers+exhaust video request(328i)

Hi all, like the title says if you have a video with catless headers+any exhaust please share it(include car/setup info) I'm trying to get an idea of what exhaust to get once i receive my headers. I've looked and found only 2 crappy videos so far :/

Thanks!

^+1. I'm also interested in this... The last thing I want is a raspy exhaust! Catless headers + BMW PE sounds like a sweet combo, but I wonder if a x-pipe is needed?

catless headers on my n52.. but its on my 128i.

catless headers, secondary catalysts in place(2), no resonator, 135i muffler. (very raspy and loud)

In cabin(same as above)

WOT exhaust sound

No videos of my current setup, but its catless headers, secondary cats, resonator, and 135i muffler. 135i muffler makes it a tad louder than a 128i muffler but with the same note. Sounds great, isn't too loud, no drone, but you can still have fun blasting through tunnels.

Catless headers introduce rasp no matter what, but IMO it sounds best with the rest of the stock exhaust in place, but i don't how how directly this will apply to you 3 series guys.

I'll try and get some videos posted of my 330i.

EDIT:

Okay, these were quick videos shot in the wrong orientation, with a ton of background noise thanks to the highway right behind us. I have a performance exhaust and MMW catless headers. (videos are still processing)

The downshift at the very end of the first video is

I would love to get some higher quality videos, but haven't had the chance yet

Thats a bit too loud for my taste. I'll be leaving the stock resonator for quieting purposes. Once i have the headers in ill upload a video of how it sounds with the stock system, according to AA it sounds stock(ish) That last video tho looks so much fun! Before i turn 40 I have to own a rwd car

That sounds pretty mean!! But I think it would get me too much attention from the 5-0. Where I live in jersey, cops are super annoying when you have a modded vehicle. Maybe the headers+stock exhaust with some nice tips can create a good sound

i can tell you right now, it's not the resonator, it's the exhaust that will dictate how loud your system is if you run catless headers. i had the PE with midpipe, and it was LOUD. put the stock muffler back on w/midpipe, and liked the sound. a little raspy at startup, but mellows out once the engine is warm.

Yea that makes sense, did you experience any drone when you removed the resonator? Would you happen to have any sound clips of the stock muffler setup

Putting my stock resonator back on made my exhaust substantially quieter as well as less raspy.

I've never had any issues with my exhaust here in California, which as you know might as well be renamed to '1940's Germany'. [KNOCK ON WOOD]

It is loud, but I have to be reminded by others that it's loud. I've just become so accustomed to the sound. I've contemplated taking out my secondary cats too, but recently have had second thoughts about it. I'll try to find a GoPro to borrow so I can get some higher quality material.

didn't notice any drone, just that it was too loud for my liking. it did rumble and roar, and in my younger days, would have loved it. was embarrassed driving around the neighborhood scaring kids and little old ladies.

i don't have any sound clips, but will try and get some over the extended weekend.

Agreed! I think the volume is perfect and the tone is great. I forgot that i do have a video of my current setup, from the dyno day, duh.

here ya go, this is my current setup(catless headers, stock mids, resonator, 135i muffler).

The pulls are from 2k-rev limiter.

How much of it was due to your intake?

the exhaust sound is not changed, but the induction note is a bit muted, in cabin at least compared to the Injen. I think generally, the stock box sounds better.

The stock box quieted down highway sound as well, not a bad thing either.

I have a secondary cat delete along with the bmw pe. I've got a 330i with a AA tune and orders the active autowerke combo. How loud to suppose it will be compared to your set up?

This is exactly where I am at. I work in a corporate setting too so it would be a little too much for my daily. I just couldn't pass the headers/N51 tune...~35 whp for about 1200 is a great return on investment haha.

Your car sounds great! I'm sure the fact that your enclosed on a garage makes it a lot louder. Would love to hear it in person....Sorry for the lack of knowledge but did you remove the secondary cats or does the 1series not have one? 135i exhaust uh, interesting swap. I wonder if it could be done to an e92. Being that the 335i system is dual. Too much trouble IMO.

Thanks! It's not really that loud, equivalent to about Performance exhaust volumes(for x28i of course). The stock secondary catalysts are both in place in all of my various setups.

@inline I would guess that your setup is around the same volume as mine. The PE is noticeable louder than stock without being too obnoxious, I would say that adding headers to an otherwise stock exhaust system will be the same volume as the Perf exhaust with no other exhaust mods.

The noise from the catless headers can be heard directly from the engine bay in front of the driver, as well as from the exhaust tips. The noise coming out of the back of your car increases yes, but not drastically at all. The large change in sound is basically because the primary cat's aren't muffling the exhaust in front of you so drastically anymore, thus it's heard better from the engine bay..

This is me just trying to figure out how to explain what i mean LOL. It's tough to explain this in text, but easy to understand when you hear it in person.

Haha yea i get you, its one of those things that are easy to comprehend when they are in front of you. Im excited to get the headers/tune(N51) i will also be deleting the charcoal filter and modding the intake+K&N filter. Doing all this at once so i think i should feel the difference no problem. My ONLY worry is doing this during warranty, im going on Vacation next week but when i come back i might take the car to the dealer and have them check everything before i do anything.
