Where do the jack stands go?
I got a situation where I need to remove the two rear wheels of my car for two days to be repaired. I was planning on leaving the car on jack stands, but I got under the car last night and couldnt figure out where the hell you put them.
I clearly see where the jack points are to jack the car up from, but where do you put the jack stands afterwards. I did a search on the site and nobody seems to know. Can any one shed some light on this??? I have a couple days before I have to take the wheels. I cant think of any other way to do this.

Sunman, yeah thats to use your jack to jack up from the jack points with out tearing them up (they are soft plastic), I just use a baseball glove like someone recommended on here and it works perfect, but I need to know where the jack stands would go after I have jacked the car up with the lift.

Yeah I saw that, but it doesnt specify where the jack stands are. And several threads on here specifically said not to jack from the rear diff, something about the rear diff/pumpkin cannot handle or support the weight of the car. It specifically said not to do that.
I just need to find out where the jackstand goes after using the rear jackpoint to raise the car with my lift.

Yeah thats exactly what they said not to do, using the rear diff center. Also that still doesnt resolve the issue, if I use that lift point, where do I put the jack stands?

I always wondered about that myself. Luckily so far I haven't had the need... just placed the jack stand next to the hydraulic jack for safety so far.

It almost seems like BMW deliberately did it this way so you cant work on the car.

If you take the wheel off, you can see an area where you can get a jack stand to sit up against the frame. It's quite high up in that area and you basically shove the extending arm from the jack stand up there. Wish I had a pic, but this is just from memory on my suspension install. If I can recall, from under the car, look in the areas where the exhaust pipes shoot upwards, it's around there I think?

On the e92, you have to raise the front with your jack and once the rear wheel is high enough off the ground, you have to put the jack stand at the same point you use to jack the vehicle in the rear. Its a pain in the a$$ and very dumb on BMW's part IMO, but that is the only way

Yeah I think it's in front of the rear wheel. Jacking any E9x is the same... You can jack up using the regular jack points, and fit the jackstands against the frame. You really shouldn't have the jack up the front end of the car so high just to get the rear end in the air...

So the metal directly above the jack stand where the bolt is, thats the frame?

We have the same problem with using jack stands to support the front of the car. Most people resort to using ramps.
That does look like the frame to me, but man that stand is sure extended!! |

Well Im going to try this weekend to see if my jack stands are high enough to pull it off. Grumpa the plastic on the jack points is pretty soft, using a jack without the adapter will chew them up. Its not a big deal though.
