Front Brake Rotors....???
Just curious what your front brake rotors look like?
And do you have the stock brake pads or aftermarket ones? Thanks Last edited by Driver72; 04-06-2008 at 10:01 AM.. |

with a car with 3000 miles..they should be pretty smooth. Most of the grooves you see with older cars...is from miles and miles of use. If debris gets in between rotor and pad..it can create havoc. Like rocks and salt from mountain passes and stuff. Oh..and I have alcons..and they are smooth as a babies butt.

Mine are OK at 12k miles. Should last another 50k, unless I can coax a freebie before the warranty lapses. I want some lightweight ceramic rotors. Cheap.

It was dark when I first read this, and since then I have to remember to take any pictures. I guess it's good that I'm forgetting, it means I have no problems with my brakes.
If I remember, I'll take a picture of my car. Original brakes at 42k+ miles. |

I'll take a look at my fronts tonight as well. I'll report back. I better not find any grooves!

I took a couple of pics, but I'll have to wait to get home to upload them.
Both of my front rotors are still smooth. I felt the rotors by hand to ensure that no smaller grooves were in the rotors. I did notice that the extreme edges of the outside and inside of the rotor have more material, so its definitely being worn away as they are used. |

As you know, BMW replaces the STOCK pads for free. They will also give you a new rotor, free.
They don't turn rotors due to their thinness. BTW - mine look way worse than yours, but I've burned through two sets of pads, a stocker and a set of full race pads. |

Photo attached...
Here is a picture of the front-right brake rotor. The FL looks the same. There is a bright ring near the hub and another bright ring near the edge of the rotor. This is the original surface areas that the pads don't sweep. I don't have a groove, but I do have significantly less brake rotor than when it was new. We'll see if I get them to last passed 50k miles.

All of my brake rotors and pads are original. Although I drive spiritedly - to say the least - I am on the highway a lot, so I don't use my brakes as often as my miles would indicate (42.7k).
