Price of diesel next yr: $3.07

Diesel will average $3.07 a gallon next year, the Department of Energy said Dec. 9, lowering its most recent forecast by 31 cents.

Trucking’s main fuel, which has averaged $3.86 per gallon this year and is now about $3.53, will slide under $3 next spring, DOE said in its monthly short-term energy outlook.

The price will bottom out at $2.97 in April and May before climbing slowly to $3.17 by the end of 2015, the report said.

The declines will be led by lower crude oil prices, the department said, cutting its forecast by $15 to an average $62.75 per barrel next year.

DOE’s Energy Information Administration, which releases the outlook, said it “expects global oil inventories to continue to build over the next year, keeping downward pressure on oil prices.”

Gasoline will drop even more precipitously, to an average $2.60 next year from its current national average $2.68, EIA said.

Gas has averaged $3.45 this year and its pump price averaged below $3 in November for the first time in almost four years.

Picture says it all

This price is about 60 cents/gallon cheaper than any one else around here. Being Chevron, its a top tier fuel. I've nearly always filled up here for almost 3 years.

Found it a couple blocks away for $3.35 at Chevron. I'll be sure to drive past my normal place tomorrow and display a choice finger for them.

The price difference from one station to the other can be so unreal at times. I saw a station about 20 miles NW of Baton Rouge with diesel at $2.57/gal. About 20 miles east of Baton Rouge I saw it as high as $3.55. HOW?!?! I just don't get it. Got to be price gouging, right?

The station I normally go to is across the street from another station with diesel. Based on their price changes, I assume they set their diesel price based on the place across the street and dont even pay attention to anywhere else around or whether they are actually moving any or not. Sometimes the price there stays the same for months even when other places around have gone way higher or lower.

Yeah that's what I use when I check. Generally it's not really worth it to go out of my way to save a dollar a week, but when the difference is $0.60/gal I'll go out of the way, if for nothing else then for principle.

Yeah, there is a huge discrepancy again in the price of gasoline and diesel.
Even within the same zip code the prices could fluctuate like crazy. $1.00/gal difference between different station for diesel.
