First winter with xi
Well, tell you what guys.. honestly i'm impressed with the xi.
I bought a 06 impreza when it first came out and became a die hard subaru fan. Then family came.. sold the impreza and bought a honda pilot (awd..) and sold that and got myself an older 06 325xi wagon.. So.. first snow fall today.. about 10cm.. and all i can say is wow.. i tried making it fish tail for the fun.. the system is quick at correcting your car and putting you back inline. Very nice..! Very comparable to subaru.. but in a BMW way. haven't turned off DTC yet.. ( i do have 2 small kids in the back seat.. ) lol. looking forward to that!

Having the xi is great once winter starts up. In the default mode I find the car always feels planted, even on pretty slippery roads. Maybe a little too planted actually. DTC gives a little better feedback on how slippery it really is, and also lets you have a little fun getting the back end loose

Sounds like we live kinda near eachother op. Same for me, first decent snow since i got the car (about 15cm here) and wow, it was amazing in the slush and crap driving to work this morning. Had a try with the assists off last nigh in a empty lot, nothing serious just threw the back end out a few times. This car is gonna be a lot of fun...... used to drive a 83 pontiac wagon in the winter(rwd) and was sideways all the time. After more than twelve years in a fwd i am in heaven

I had fun with my rear wheel drive yesterday. Only had to be pushed out once lol.
I had to turn off traction control to get traction to get out of deep snow. |

Hey guys! Went for a 400km drive yesterday after a 30cm snowfall at 6am in the morning.. Very good feel for the car. Well planted and held the icy road conditions nicely. I did drive back with the dtc pushed (yellow on odometer) and felt that it handled better. Steering tightened up more giving it better control.. But very satisfied!
I've taken a few corners here with DTC off and the ass really swings out nicely but easy to regain control. I love it! |

I just traded an '09 Acura TL SH-AWD for '11 335xi and also went through my first snow storm the other day. I've had Conti DWS all seasons on the Acura for 2 winters and now I have a brand new set of Conti TS810 winter run flats on the 335.
My first impression was that the 335 actually felt more slippery than the TL even on snows. But that maybe due to the tires being not that great. You can definitely feel the rear wheel bias of the Xi as the rear end does tend to get away if you're not careful. But that is actually something I like to be honest it gives you a feeling of being more in control of your vehicle rather than the vehicle doing all the work for you. With acura's torque vectoring rear diff (that comes standard with SH-AWD) and front wheel bias it really does feel solid in these types of conditions. You don't need as much attention to plow through snow confidently. It was pretty cool to be just easily crusing along the city like through an obsticle course sometimes with cars left and right stuck everywhere even on the slightest uphills having really hard time making it through, simply getting completely stuck or ending up in a ditch. I don't get why BMW only include this feature in their high end SUV M models and Audi only include this feature on their high end S models as an option when Acura has been using the technology successfuly in all of their SH-AWD vehicles which cost way less to begin with. So either way, TL is not exactly a true sports sedan and obviosuly BMW does a way better job at achieving that goal however for winter driving I think its a perfect platform especially with its reliability record. |

I'd love to try a MDX with that same technology one day..or the rdx turbo add.. Must be awesome in the winter. I sure loved my Subaru in the winter.. Nothing beats it in my opinion!
