Audio Spectrum Analyzer Apps

Has anyone tried any of the spectrum analyzer apps for iOS to help tune their system?

i have used RTA Lite with a Dayton mic on my iphone with pink noise. works as it should. i believe that mic is like $30 at parts express.

Ended up downloading the Spectrum Analyzer - Real Time Sound Frequency Analyzer from ONYX Apps. Works great! It also generates White and Pink noise as well as individual tones (50, 100, 200, 500, 1k, 1.6k, 2k, 5k, 10k, and 16k).

But...remember to turn off your engine when running the program. The engine sounds falsely elevate the sub spectrum (under 80hz, especially around 35Hz). Only took me about an hour to figure THAT out.

JL Audio has a free iOS app with SPL meter and 1/3 octave spectrum analyzer. It works pretty good and these kind of apps have compensation for the built-in iPhone mic. It's better though to use an external mic made for measurements. I just use a Dayton EMM-6 with my M-Audio USB interface and MacBook for example.

Maybe someone else can chime in with specific measurement mics that work with iOS & apps. Here's a few links I could find. The Dayton iMM-6 is only $18, I need to try that one out myself.

Below are two measurements using the RTA app (paid version).

First one is using iPhone internal mic. Second one is using external calibrated mic. Big difference, especially on the low end!

Did you have your car running when you ran these? That's how my graph looked when when I THOUGHT I had equalized my subs properly but couldn't figure out why the sub range was so high. It was the rumbling of the engine.
