paint or powdercoat

first off all yes i have done the search.... lol ok so i have read alot but everyone has different opinions. i want to ask this to people that have experience. What is better to paint or powder coat? quality? looks? $$$$?

costs betw. 50-120 per wheel but much more resistant to chipping, etc.

Also agree that powdercoat would offer a more resiliant finish to chips and other road hazzards. The process lends itself to have a more 'even' finish than painting. However, if you want a special paint colour or a multi colour wheel, then it may be more difficult to achieve with powdercoating.

Powdercoat. Better durability.

It'll run you a little more money, but it's worth it in the end.

Don't powercoat cast wheels

It exposes the wheels to temperatures they were not designed to handle and can cause weakness.

because I bought the wheels from someone and also the factory dosent have all black wheels they just have the center black with silver lip

yes. painting requires more man hour to prep and paint. where as powder coating is sand blasting them and powder coating the whole rim.

there is a potential of shattering the wheel.. so be careful not to hit a pot-hole at a high speed... but since you are goin all black, jus paint em!

I think I am going to send this idea to Mythbusters...

I always "hear" of people warning of powdercoating a wheel, but I have known dozens that have had no issues. Iv'e done it a couple times and had no issues (with tracking/autoxing), granted I'm not talking about 19's or 20's or Rota's...

I don't think that the temps they use are nearly high enough to re-temper the metal. 350 or 400 degrees... hmm, lets see on a hot day at Thunderhill I'd guess my wheels must hit at least 200-250 degrees, conservatively.

Tirerack doesn't seem to think there is an issue if it is done correctly. Just get it done right...

I've looked into powdercoating myself. You can do many different colors today and the cost is around $100 - $150/wheel from a good shop.
Ask specialty auto shops in your area. Chances are, they know someone who's good.
