Last Saturday I began the process of an independent evaluation and review of spray waxes. I have been using spray waxes for many years. However, a few months ago, I came across two new nano-carnauba spray waxes. I am not affiliated or have any special interest in any spray wax company.

I was curious to know how effective these two new spray waxes compare to a traditional premium carnauba paste wax.

For years, I had been using a third spray wax; a well-known and popular spray wax. I’m not sure of the ingredients.

My assumption – a Premium Carnauba Paste Wax is the standard to which all spray waxes might be compared.

I selected the hood of my car for this review. The hood (first 25%) has an invisible mask and thus, did not receive any wax (spray or paste).

To begin the process and properly prepare the surface, here are the steps:

Hood.


Rinsed hood.


Washed hood with an automotive car soap/shampoo.


Clayed hood with a premium clay and detailer/speed shine product.


Polished hood to remove any scratches, towel marks, etc. I used a very mild polish (Machine Polish 4) with an orbital polisher.



Divided the hood into four sections.


Applied three spray waxes and a premium carnauba paste wax to the four sections. The premium carnauba paste wax is the standard to compare the spray waxes. The three spray waxes were easy to apply and fairly easy to remove using a microfiber towel. However, the premium carnauba paste wax took a minute or two longer to apply (albeit – a very small section). And, a few minutes longer to remove. The best method to remove the dried wax is in small sections and by frequently turning the microfiber towel. The additional time for applying and removing the premium carnauba paste wax in my opinion is significant.

Wiped and buffed all four sections with four separate microfiber towels. No contamination.


Results in shade and sunlight.


The hood never looked so good.


The first part of my independent review has been completed.

• I plan to drive the car daily for 7 days. Expose the car to elements, weather, park outside one or two nights, etc. After 7 days, evaluate the results with a visual inspection…take pictures. The hood will remain untouched. I will post pictures on this thread.
• After 10 days, after a visible inspection I may or may not dust with a California Duster, evaluate and take pictures (before and after dusting). I will post pictures on this thread.
• After 12 days, rinse and mild washing, microfiber towel dry, visible inspection, check for water beading, evaluate and take pictures. I will post pictures on this thread.

New Nano-carnauba spray waxes
• Hi-Lustre Nano Carnauba Spray Wax. (lower right)
• Eagle One Superior Nanowax. (upper left)

Spray wax
• Griot’s Garage Spray Wax (lower left)

Premium Carnauba Paste Wax
• Griot’s Garage Premium Carnauba Paste Wax (upper right)

nice! i use the hi lustre nano carnuba spray as well but only cuz i got it for free nd does a decent job. I have meguiars ultimate quik wax/x-press wax always handy.

While not a spray wax, you should look into sonax polymer net shield. I used to detail cars on the side until I had a few disk issues. I still use this, as it is easy to apply, beads/sheets well, and lasts several months.

Anyways, I love seeing comparisons like this!

Great question - currently, there are several spray waxes on the market. I was given a sample of the Eagle One Superior Nanowax a few weeks ago. At the same time, I spoke to a representative at HiLustre Car Care Products who presented their NanoCarnauba as an excellent spray wax; so, I purchased a bottle. I already had Griot's Garage Spray Wax.

For years, I've read on this and other "brand" forums - this particular product is great...superior results...easy on and easy off...none better...fantastic results...etc. So, based on my recent experience and reading forum comments, it was time for a shine off or personal review.

I did not have Meguir's Ultimate Quik Wax. I may do another review and I'll be sure to include Meguir's.

I appreciate all the interest in this personal review - thank you.

After 7 days of daily driving, I have attached four pics of the hood comparing three spray waxes to a premium carnauba paste wax. Yes, the car was parked outside one evening. By looking at the pics, you may not be able to tell any differences between the three spray waxes compared to the paste wax.

I could not discern any significant differences by "merely" looking at the hood in the shade or sunlight. (My neighbor confirmed my unscientific observation). Therefore, based on this 7 day review, the waxes are fairly effective and somewhat equal.

HOWEVER, upon closer inspection with two different LED flashlights - there is a difference. The lower right quadrant has more haziness than the other three. In addition, there are multiple dew/overnight mist residual streaks. In other words, when driven the dew left residual streaks behind. They are noticeable when inspected closely. The residual streaks were not found in the other three quadrants. I'll take a few photos and post at a later time.

I plan to provide two more review updates (including using a California Duster and a washing).

Pictured below is the hood after 7 days (the hood has not been touched in 7 days) in the early morning. The overnight dew/mist is clearly visible. Also, you may be able to see the tape lines. And, you may be able to see a slight change in color in the middle of the hood. This is lighting. However, you can see that in the lower left quadrant, the dew/mist did not accumulate to the same degree as the other quadrants. This was an interesting finding - a question: Would this occur over the entire hood if the same spray wax was used in all four quadrants?

Last pic below is the hood, dry, early PM in the sun. Upon direct and casual observation, it was very difficult to tell any significant difference between the four quadrants.

Interesting results. I'd like to see after another week the difference between them. Nice to know that the spray waxes do give a decent amount of protection for the ease of application.

This is the second update to the original post. The below pics were taken 10 days after the initial application of spray waxes and a premium carnauba paste wax.

The pictures do NOT tell the whole story...inadequate camera resolution.

10 Day Results
1. All four quadrants were dusted with a California Duster. Upon close inspection, there is a marked difference between the four. The upper right quadrant had less water spots, insect splatters, and bird droppings. It is very difficult to tell by looking at these pics.

2. All four quadrants had similar accumulations of dust and fine, but sparsely dispersed grainy deposits (like specks of sand).

3. All four quadrants had similar gloss, shine, and reflection before and after the entire hood was dusted with a California Duster. However, the lower right quadrant had residual streaks left over from overnight dew/mist.

4. After dusting, all four quadrants were buffed with a microfiber towel and detailer spray. The upper right quadrant (premium carnauba paste wax) was by far the easiest to buff - all particles/dust, etc. were completely and easily removed. No water/dew/mist spots remained. The other three quadrants had residual water/dew/mist spots (these were all spray wax quadrants). A slightly more aggressive action was required to remove all particles, spots, etc.

10 Day Summary
In my opinion, the premium carnauba paste wax makes a significance difference in protecting your paint. The paste wax also makes a detailer spray more effective in restoring paint to a "just waxed" look and feel. It also makes cleaning and removing any dust/particles/dew/bird droppings/insect splatters, etc. easier.
