Brief Overview of Procede vs Dinan

Hi guys, I'm new to the forum and just got a new 335i.. I was wondering of the difference between Procede and Dinan.. I am new to the tuning part too.. so I have been reading on the topics for a few days now.. still not quite sure which to do.. I'm guessing the Procede allows you to "tune" more out of your car, but at the warranty cost? Yet, the warranty on the Dinan is questionable at best.. Also, my car currently only has 600 miles, and I called one of the Dinan dealers and they told me to break it in first (at least 1000) before attempting to tune.. is that correct? Could I purchase the Procede and tune myself? If I go to the dealer to fix my car, would I have to remove the Procede every time or would the mechanics look at me funny knowing I have a tune inside?

yes the PROcede would give the user many options to control the tune. u can also download different maps. u will have to remove and set everything back to stock each dealer visit, anything related to the engine i guess.

my best guess is that the PROcede v2 makes a couple more WTQ and about close to the same WHP from what i was researching this morning than the Dinan.

btw u can sell the PROcede at anytime.

v2 makes substantially more power than the Dinan flash. Depending on User TQ settings and octane, you're looking a 15-40whp differential. Same goes for torque.

Actually V2 makes bout 20+whp more than Dinan.

Thanks guys for the quick response!

Thanks guys for the quick response! I'm still deciding on what to get.. although maybe I should at least break the car in first.. I don't know if 600 miles is good enough or not.. With the Dinan flash, would the mechanics at the dealer "reflash" the car again to the slower stock speed if they notice I had a faster flash applied? There seems to be different advantages / disadvantages to each.. but I do see these dynos for the Procede to be higher.. do you have a link to the Procede dyno that's the same as the Dinan? Have there been any comparisons as to any strengths/weaknesses? Thanks for the answers.. I know I'll read up more about these stuff and your various responses to other people's questions..

ok... thanks I actually haven't really "floored" the car yet and tried the true stock power so far.. my first time on the freeway was yesterday.. I don't know how long you are supposed to break the car in.. the manual something to the like of 600 miles, so I stuck with that.. but actually even at 60-80 mph, the rpm doesn't go over 2 that much.. but I'll do more research on Procede / Dinan and others now so I will be ready..

Certainly the V2 makes more power, and if that is your ultimate goal then fine.

You need to realize that the Dinan flash does more than make power, it changes throttle response, changes the water cooler output and also reduces boost level at pressures that Dinan deems dangerous to the turbos.

I don't want to start a flame war. The V2 makes more power, but the two are distinctly different and really do not share the same market.

They really appeal to 2 totally different buyers.

Do your research, search the threads and make a decision that YOU feel is best for your needs.

I talked to Dinan on this issue, they have flashed some new cars and have not had problems.

Doesn't mean it is smart thing to do. I don't think you can take some parts of the flash and not others, it is all or none.

Break the car, be smart, and then make your investment.

yes, I agree with what you guys say.. it is based on users preference .. Also, I'm reading up on the article given to me now and in there it says that it depends on the knowledge of the user in working with cars (for me, that would be lower than beginner, haha).. so I'm just leaning towards Dinan just because of that.. Although having the ability to learn and customize would be a lot better.. seems I'll do more research ... thanks everyone!!

Anyone living in Southern California that has either the Procede or Dinan? Can you tell me some of your opinions on each? Thanks

Procede-
Pros: Easily removeable. Easy to get a new map. Easy to adjust the tune to your liking. Slightly more power than Dinan. Much more power if you do other basic power upgrades.
Cons: Warranty for drivetrain components will be gone if BMW finds it in your car (it IS easy to remove), if you plan to keep the car stock otherwise not much power advantage, if you're not mechanically inclined, installation could be tricky

Dinan- Pros: Simple install. Warrantied by Dinan. Similar power if you don't plan to do many mods. A "known" name in the business with a reputation for making good products. Nothing on your car is physically altered.
Cons: Seeing as it's a flash, you can't remove it and sell to someone else. If you plan to do any other mods, the procede will make noticeably more power. No customizability. No tunability.

Although, I think it is inappropriate to compare two completely different products, there have been no reported "limp mode" issues from the Dinan flash. Before I hear, well there are so much more "insert piggyback here" being used, keep in mind the majority who purchase the flash do not visit these forums.

Get used to the power stock before you plow $ into a tune. Wait and learn.

Do yourself a favor, don't listen to any vendors. Not Dinan, Vishnu (procede) eurobahn (Turbo Tuner) or any other tuner. Not they don't know a lot, but they are all biased. Yes, some of the members here are biased as well, but at least they don't stand to make a buck from your decision.

The reason why there are some limp modes on the Procede is that its an agressive tune for the max power where as the Dinan is a conservative tune with modest gains...I am sure if it used the original beta configurations of 15 psi, there would be limp modes....Dinan only has boost max at 13 psi

so you think dinan with the stock ecu knowing everything the car is doing and not being tricked to make 15psi would still throw a code.Interesteing but I think your wrong there bud.The dinan boost is 13.8 and they are going to offer bigger turbos and more boost down the road.

Dinan is not tricking anything in the ecu, there should be no limps because the ecu knows whats going on,its not being piggybacked and will always be more reliable.

If I buy the Vishnu Procede, can anyone help me install it? I live in Los Angeles.. I downloaded the Procede installation video and will analyze it, but my "mechanic" level is still too low.. How long will it usually take to install something like this? Otherwise, the Dinan Dealer I am talking too (Bullet Motorsports Speedlab) says that they are getting the 2008 ECU Computer Upgrade in their shop next month.. so he said he can apply it for me next month if I wanted to.. I hear that you have to ship them the ECU now and probably have to wait 2-3 days.. I would probably like something that can be guaranteed done in 1 day (or at most just take a couple of hours)..

Dinan had originally beta tested from what I heard the tune at 15 psi...When they released it the max psi is only 13 psi...I am guessing that the 15 psi tune must of been to agressive and probably induce some limp modes here and there...I am sure if the Procede if all installation is correct and the max boost doesn't exceed 13, there would be FAR less limp modes induced...thats my opinion!!

There are many people/shops in LA that can install a PROcede if you DNR want to do it yourself (although I always recommend doing it yourself). Harmon Motive and Logic pop to mind if you want it done for you. Better than listening to us regarding what to get, try to test drive both and see what you like better. You drive everyday. You only install something once.
