Pop hood, look around, start engine wait for check engine lights to go off & you are done. No sniff. No rollers.

No, you wont pass unless whatever tune you are using has figured out how to get all of the obd monitors to clear, which I don't think anyone has quite done yet. You would also need to pass visual but you probably still would.

There is a OBD scan performed while the car is running.
It's not a "smog test", but rather a computer test.
Visuals are easy to pass. Nobody knows what's going on under the hood.

I will have to talk to the tuner then cuz I might move to CA next year. I heard there are some shops that can "help" you pass (money talks). Is that true? Do you guys know any?

They do everything they can to crack down on shops that do that and also trying to make it not possible to do, but I'm sure there are still places that do it. I don't know any though. You're better off getting the car registered in a non smog county if you can get that done.

I got lucky at Pep Boys with my smog check, because the guy there had no idea what he was supposed to do and what to look for. He tried to read the manual while doing the OBD test.
I believe there was no visual inspection done. Or, if there was one, he just made sure there was an engine in there and the fuel cap said diesel on it.

At that time I only had a larger intercooler. I think the ECU tune came afterwards. EGR delete a month after.
