The fiance skidded on ice today and had an accident in her Acura.
2009 Acura TSX skidding on ice going about 15mph, spun, and rear passenger tire hit curb. No visible damage from exterior except for rim (i'm expecting bent suspension parts).
BUT, both passenger side and passenger curtain deployed. There was not passenger in the car... is this normal. Her car is only worth about $10k. I know these airbags are expensive, but not sure how expensive. We have the insurance adjuster coming tomorrow AM. Anybody have any insight on whether you think this might be a write-off?

Lol...not laughing cause of what happen but that the airbags went off on a 15mph curb hit
Should only cost $1-2k to fix it so why its a total?

Wow. I was in a head on collision in my 06 Focus and my airbags never deployed. The left front corner of my car was hit by some idiot woman staring at her cell phone crossing the double yellow. She hit me while I was going about 20-30 MPH and she was doing about that same speed; caused about $3700 in damage....can't remember now.
Two extremes with airbags. |

Yea, boggles my mind. I used to do shit 10x worse in my jeep and nothing ever happened. Only thing I can think of that is that the Ecu thought she might roll...

Probably why it deployed both sides is just a safety measure to keep any glass or whatnot from hitting any occupants or if you're not wearing your seat belt, you have something to soft to bounce off of.
It shouldn't total the care but you can always fight the insurance and get them to fix it since the airbags and 1 rim needs to be replaced, plus an alignment and a good once over from a good mechanic. |

I live in MD and travel frequently to NJ. There were tons of black ice out yesterday and today.
I had my rear end break loose on black ice today, but fortunately, winter/snow tires made it easy to recover. Here's an dash cam video of it today: It's good to hear no one got hurt. You should probably consider snow/winter tires next season. The $900 I paid for the tires + mount/balance are far less expensive than the cost of an accident. |

just saying.. an 09 TSX is worth more than $10K. I've been car shopping with my sister for this exact car and have seen them $15-20K depending on mileage and options (like tech pkg)
