We finally bonded

I decided on the 335is after a great deal of thought, wanting a fun but practical daily driver, coming from a Cooper S + Lotus Elise combo. Tough act to follow. The 335is narrowly beat an M3 or older 997 Carreras S, due to the sensible side of the brain winning out.
So I have been gradually working on improving what for me were the shortcomings, namely the squirrely rear subframe and harsh suspension, but until today there was still something lacking......
It's been said before, but the missing link was an LSD, which we all know should have been fitted as standard equipment. Finally the car feels alive and responsive, hooking up in corners and generally living up to its potential. I may now start thinking about more power, though it still feels plenty fast for now.
Not cheap - it's much easier to convince yourself to opt for the less expensive, flashier mods first, but those who keep banging on about an LSD being the absolute best single mod for the 335 are just plain right.

I'd be interested in how much it cost to buy and install the LSD. Where did you get it installed?

Total Motor Werkes in Aurora installed the Wavetrac. They were excellent - real enthusiasts and have access to a top quality machine shop and diff builder. Check out their web site and Facebook page. Usic runs the shop - I would prefer you contact him (or Tracy) for quotes. I have no connection other than this job. I was referred to them by the Wavetrac distributor.
The cheapest price I have seen for the Wavetrac was approx $1,100 USD, though the DCT version can be tough to source.

So did you find a local shop that was able to separate a welded differential?

Yes - TMW handled the whole process. There are pics on their Facebook page.

I am more interested to know what made you chose 335IS over 997 C2S? :P

Been thinking of doing the LSD ever since I got mine. For power get a COBB and have it tuned by Dzenno at PTF. You will not be disappointed.

A LSD is the 335's Achilles heel. I can't wait to get one. Having owned and driven cars with LSDs for the past several years, I sorely miss it. It baffles me that BMW wouldn't even put it in their iS model, which is touted as a much sportier and trackable machine. For shame.

Has tmw done very many of these?
Do they offer any guarantee or warranty?

This was their first Wavetrac, though they had done a number of Quaife installs on a variety of platforms. I suggest you speak to them about any concerns you have - I was very impressed by their dedication to doing a first class job and the result was perfect - no clunks, whines or other symptoms of below par work.
Check out their Facebook page and website.

To be clear, they sub out the machining and diff assembly to specialized shops in the area, but manage the process.
