Thinking about buying an E46 M3... fun story
Whats up guys!
So i'm entertaining the notion of buying an E46 M3, keeping it for about a year, then scooping up a (much more desirable) E92 M3 with that incredible S65 motor. My 335 (which many of you have seen) is up around 115K, and while its incredibly solid, with no CELs, no JB codes, misfires, limps, anything in the last few months - plus all the N54 issues sorted, I love it, but its time to move on. I am feeling the need to go back to an M car. Picking up a 4Runner next week to balance the M out with something with year round utility. Anyways - Quick story - I've been on CL looking at M3's for sale for the last couple of months, and wholly shit did i come across an entertaining seller... check out the ad and the emails. This guy is a joke - I have never seen someone attempt to misrepresent themselves (and the car for sale) to such a degree. I don't want to flame this guy, but i was telling my buddy about this little diatribe, and he pulled up this guys facebook, found pictures of the M sitting in a half enclosed car port, covered in snow, along with some soft core porn and a jeep wrangler... Once you read the emails below you'll see just how ridiculous this is... The ad: http://boston.craigslist.org/bmw/cto/4852931287.html The emails: Me: Hello, May be interested in this car. I am a BMW enthusiast, have owned many 3 series, including an M3 (currently have a 335i). Since this one is priced well into the upper echelon of the E46 M3 market, I'm curious to know what you mean by "upgraded to 2013/2014 Mechanical specs" The picture you have posted of the receipt from BMW of Sudbury is illegible, so if you could email or explain the work done, id appreciate it! Look forward to hearing form you. Thank you, Jason joker Hi Jason Print out the list of upgrades, it is self-explanatory. A partial list of upgrades are: NEW SMG TRANSMISSION NEW BRAKES, CALIPERS, DRILLED DISCS, NEW TIRES STEERING RACK, PUMP, WINDOW WASHER RESERVOIR, WINDSHIELD WIPERS, SUSPENSION- shocks, ball jaints, all associated parts, passanger airbag , related sub-parts too numerous to mention. Additionally, when asked why go to the expense over ($20,000) + labor... well the short answer is this M3 is my all-time favorite. I planned to keep this and all other vehicles in my collection, unfortunately I recently moved from Florida where my collection fit comfortably in my garages, and air conditioned horse barns. A garage to house the (6) remaining vehicles in my MA collection is cost prohibitive in excess of $2500/ mo. So, there you have it. BMW covers all these parts for 3 years. from installation. I have $57,000 invested + in this M3 the best one you will find. Thank you for your interest. Howard Brudner Me: Hello, As mentioned- the picture of the "list of upgrades" is illegible. In other words, printing it will be of no help, as the resolution of the image is too low to read on a computer screen or a piece of paper. If possible, please send the image via email. I'm assuming you are looking to recover some of the cost of the repairs you recently completed, however, I'm hopeful you would agree that 25K is well above market value for an E46 chassis M3 with the mileage yours has, as well as the less desirable SMG transmission. In the list you provided, I don't see any upgrades listed, rather repairs and maintenance. On that note, if you are confident that you can be flexible in price, please let me know. Thanks Jason Joker Let me know if your able to view once downloaded. Me: Hello, Yep - I can read it. Looks like the transmission was blown and replaced, along with 2 rear tires and 3 rims and a few other random parts. Certainly no upgrades here, I'll pass. FYI an E46 with upgrades will look a bit more like this: http://nh.craigslist.org/cto/4834197152.html. Not sure if the air conditioned horse barns you mentioned are actually the trailer park car port the M3 is sitting in covered with snow on your Facebook pictures, but hey, good luck with sale! I'd suggest you drop the price about 5 grand and firm up the accuracy of your statements if you'd like to actually sell this thing. |
