Question Improving 335d exhaust sound?

I love everything about my 335d E92 with the exception one thing: the sound track.

Every time I hear an i with DPs and PE mod, it makes me very jealous indeed

There are countless videos on YouTube of very impressive sounding 335d with plenty of turbo whistle, but they all seem to have the DPF removed, which I am not prepared to do for various reasons, however awesome it sounds

Can anything be done to noticeably improve the sound of the 335d without removing the DPF?

Straight through pipes from the DPF.

Thanks Raj. I know it can be hard to describe, but what can I expect? Do you have a video? Is it a significant difference?

Tbh not sure as was more just a possible option. All the vids I've seen are straight through but also with DPF delete.

The PDF is the most restrictive part of the system, but by removing the rear boxes it should yield a significant noise increase.

Seb,
More whining noise I'd say, less low down grunt and more of a whisltling whining noise if that makes any sense. I personally don't like the sound. I also feel shi*e everytime a 335i with perf mods goes past but then they'll be playing catch ups when they're refilling while we're going past Hahhaha

Straight through 3.5 pipe, rear boxes being removed. More of a deeper note and is noticeably louder under load. If I was to get another 335d this would be one of first mods.

Thanks for all the replies guys, this sounds rather good. Essentially a straight pipe from the DPF removes just the back boxes, right? Would I get any errors or negative side effects?

Just wish I could find someone who has done it to see what it's like...

Ashstar88 has my old system on his car but unfortunately he is in Essex. Get it done, it wont cost a lot and there are no negative effects.

I'm very tempted Skelts. I didn't realise Ashstar's car was your old car. It's a stunner!

Think he meant just the exhaust.

There shouldn't be any negative effects from removing just the backbox. Just the increase in noise.

I fancy a bit more noise, I was going to do the rear box mod but I want to hear what it sounds like first.

you need to remove the resonator box as well is very restrictive no downside to it

Oh right, sure.

The replies here seem to suggest it makes a difference, but saw a lot of threads on other forums saying it made hardly any difference

I'd love to hear one to make my own mind up.

I see - so what actually is the exhaust layout? Does it go engine to DPF to resonator box to back box to tips? Is that everything?
