funny noise from car

Does anyone know what this noise is that stops at 6 seconds. I have only noticed it 3 times now. Does something need attention?

Thanks

Mine did it, then didn't do it, then did it again. Happens more in cold than warm weather. 2 years later still going fine. Would love to know what it is though.

Strange. I first heard it in a car park when chatting and thought what the heck was that but it stopped, just like here. Didn't then hear it for days.

I guess something will come up on idrive if it's serious.

It sounds like a injector or one of the pulleys as mine started doing the same noise aswel today but didn't get much time to check it over. Hopfully it's nothing serious.

could possibly be waste gate chatter? these cars do suffer from them and its usually on startup! on the offchance you've got a jb4 you can set it so the wastegate is permenantly open or closed. set it to open and see if the noise vanishes.

Seems unlikely at idle, especially as I unplugged the vacuum lines to check. The tick is quite synchronous with the injectors so it could be then. I have had this noise on and off for 2 years now with no engine problems.

IIRC it goes away if you increase revs slightly. It does kinda sound like a pulley though and is coming from that area.

they can still chatter at idle but if you've unplugged the vacum line that eliminates that possibilty for sure. bit of a strange noise!
