Reckons he averaged 53mph - I didn't think that was bad considering the cities he drove through.

That was the only city before he reached the UK though, the rest was autoroute/motorway.

I'll bet there was some very careful route planning involved and it wasn't just down to plugging London into the SatNav.

If you were really cynical then you might consider the effect that could be achieved if they took a few cars for slipstreaming and general assistance and congestion spotting along the route. Regardless though they are remarkable figures for a car with that sort of performance.

What they should have done is take a hybrid along for a comparison (and to laugh at).

God I wish mine did 300 miles to a tank, cost me £67 to fill up the other day and it was all gone in 280 miles

I am getting fed up with spending all my time in the petrol station at the mo and the fact that I am spending near on £280 a month to do 1000 miles a month. Even with a fuel card I am still paying around £140. Diesel is sooooooooooooo the way to go

Ouch! I'm paying less than that to fill up with V-Power Diesel... and getting 400+ (just) to the tank. Okay it's not the 500+ that the old 320d used to return, but then it's got 50% the capacity and more than 50% more power.

The dark side will prevail! Power and economy!

I got 650 miles out of a thankful back in September, but I still struggle to believe over 900 and still be a practical journey.
If true who's gonna be first to offer the 1000 mile tank, as that would be a good selling point.

Wow, 68.9mpg is very good, makes you wonder if hybrid cars are really worth it. Anyone know why there's no Diesel/electric hybrid?

Took the family on a trip round to Kent at the weekend, bl**dy SPECS cameras along a good portion of the M1 and M25, so I carefully kept to the speed limit, but got overtaken by a pushy Prius who went past and pulled away to at least 80mph (why own a Prius and drive like that I wonder?). Anyway, I bet I was getting better mpg than him ... trip computer claimed an average 40.3mpg at the end of the day.

Blimey that's poor - you have an ED model or older?

I've got an E91 330i [272bhp] auto and regularly get over 500 miles to a tank [70/30] split motorway/extra urban. Mainly using active cruise too....

Im seriously thinking of selling my 335D for a 318D. If i can get 650+ from a tank it might be worth it.

I need to take one out for a weekend to find out. Does anyone know if a dealership would let you have one for this length of time ?

Hi Scoot, I had a 335i out for the weekend when i was deciding diesel vs petrol. But the 335d, i could only have for the day (about 7hrs in reality). It just depends how often customers request test drives, and whether the car is allocated to a member of staff.

335d to 318d? I had a 118d courtesy car last year, too underpowered, so even though the efficiency shouts out at you, the power compromise is too great.

If it was the efficient dynamics version it probably ran so weak it misfired all the way and then they will release a software update to make it work properly
