Thumbs up bmWhat what a great app

I just purchased the Bmwhat dongle from amazon for 30.99 and the Bmwhat app for android in the google play store and I'm very glad I did it, it's a great and clever app to have when you own 2 bimmers, my son's 328i just refused to start yesterday and the bmwhat app just found a Faulty Starter code, today I just removed the starter and the new starter with new starter bolts and intake manifold gasket should be here on monday. And the best thing, I just coded my 335i flawlessly using the same dongle and app, now I can use my hi-beams with the fog lights at the same time, I can close all my windows, locks and sunroof with my key remote, and now my side blinkers blink 5 times instead of 3 when using one touch signal light, every bmw owner must have this duo for sure !!!!

This is good to hear, I am thinking about getting it, mainly driven by the need for a new battery and the registration process that is required. I figure if this can do the registration then i can save some money plus be able to code some features. How did you make the decision to get the BT dongle VS the cable? My car is an 08 made in Jan 08, so it is not an LCI ('09+) but according to what I read on their website, it is an LCI (made after 03/'07) and should use the BT dongle. Is this right?

Yes you should use the BT dongle for sure ! I preferred the BT vs the Cable for comfort, that's the only reason.

I got their BT and the full app and is simply great...I would say that the application is resonable price wise for what is able to do...I also got the service reminder upgrade but I did not use it as of yet...I will also get the battery registration sooner or later...

I tried testing my car with the free version of BMWhat and a OBDII BT adapter and I got the message "Coding via Bluetooth connection not possible for this model. Please use cable connection." My car is a pre-facelift car with a build date of 12/2007. I'm able to use the OBDII BT adapter for diagnostic purposes, but coding requires the USB cable.

What about the BMS powerbox? Does anyone know if this caused issues for reading any of the ecus?

My car was 08 made in feb 08. No issues here connecting to BT dongle from amazon I purchased a while back to use with torque pro app. Works fine with Bmwhat app I registered my battery.

Anyone have trouble connecting with the ANdroid and the BT dongle? I can pair to the dongle, but when I try to connect I get "Please wait until connection is verified,...." and it is seemingly stuck here.

x2 on this, Thinking about getting this too but I'd be using an android not an iphone.

So this device would be an option as opposed to what cables exactly? Still new to the whole coding thing, looking to educate myself before diving in.

I got this resolved. I had to go to 'settings' and choose 'alternative connection'. This allowed me to connect quickly and then do a diagnosis, where it found 43/43 ecus and 11 faults.

Now I would like to clear the faults to see which ones are real. Anyone know how to clear the faults with the free trial version of the app?

I wondered if only the full version could delete the faults.

The full version is the one that does stuff.

The lite version is so that people can test connectivity to determine if full app will work on their car models before committing to buy.
