Borla or Magnaflow
I have researched about all the after market exhausts for our cars n52 325i/328i/330i but they all seem to pricey 500$ for RE Ikon 1000$ for BMW Performance Exhaust and all the other famous brands like Supersprint and Eisenmann and since i think they are too expensive i thought a custom exhaust would be the best way to go. (axel-back only)
I heard about the Magnaflow 14815 : Another option would be the Borla Speciality muffler 40842s : Please help me decide . My main quest is to get a deep tone without lots of drone and please don't suggest a muffler delete. Does anyone have an idea how this exhaust (Tanabe T70155A) would sound like on a 328i ? |

Go Magnaflow
Magnaflow is great. I had one on my e39 528i Sport and it sounded perfect. It had the I6 engine and there was no drone at all. I cut off the stock one and replaced it with the Magnaflow 14816. I kept the OEM resonator too. Any muffler shop can install one. I think they are one of the 'best bangs for the buck'.

Go with custom piping and a magnaflow, if it's to loud you can always add a resonator, that Honda exhaust wont sound anything like that on a 328, and personally, it sounds pretty raspy and not deep at all

Magnaflow is more popular than Borla for your car, it also sounds deeper in my opinion.
That being said i would also check the AA system, best one for the price.

I have the magnaflow 14815 on my e90 330xi and I get a lot of compliments on how nice it looks and sounds. To me it's just perfect, not to loud, just a beautiful sound. The tips are similar to the bmw performance and other higher priced mufflers. The 14816 is exactly the same muffler just different tips. I had a flowmaster exhaust system on my 06 ex-f-150 and it got very annoying (loud) after a while on the hwy, that's one of the reasons why I sold the truck, to me the magnaflow is not like that all. If you want something loud then I suggest you search here and on YouTube for sound clips to make your final decision, good luck.

I don't have any video clips, but I can guarantee you that there is NO drone whatsoever on my car. And I can not get any clips until summer time, my car is hibernating, I have 5 vehicles so I don't drive my e90 in the winter time. Here's a link that shows exactly how the muffler looks. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...naflow+muffler
(Not my car, but mine was done exactly the same and the muffler looks the same.) Hope this helps. |

I do not have any info on the borla but I do have the magnaflow. What I did was take out the 3rd resonator and replaced it with a magnaflow, then straight piped it to the back with 4 resonated tips. Sounds awesome. Sorry but no clips currently.

I cannot speak for the borla on a BMW. But I have the Borla Atak catback on my Mustang and it is loud and makes no friends with the neigbors at throttle, but docile and no drone when cruising. All stainless and seems top notch quality wise.
