CAI for MOTIV single turbo
Not real elegant, but -- with the exception of some racer's tape and a cable tie -- it's all reconfigured stock parts.
I'll be revising/improving in days ahead. EDIT: Substituted pix with somewhat cleaned up intake. Neil Last edited by MDORPHN; 02-17-2015 at 04:27 PM.. |

I honestly don't see what's so bad about ghetto rigging stuff in the engine bay.
Unless you're going to car shows to show off, if it works and doesn't fall off, why not? |

How so? It's bringing cold air from the grill to the air filter. I don't expect it to produce many additional ponies, but it can only help. Plus the air filter is behind a heat shield so, at least at speed, there should be a significant difference between IAT and the ambient temp in the engine compartment.

Having taken engine compartment temps many times, I can assure you that this is not the case.
Yes, air travels from the grill through the intercooler and radiator, but it is heated up in the process. There's a reason that BMW designs its stock intake system to pull in cold air. Neil |

Looks better then the original. I think the tape was throwing people off.
I used to direct the bmw stock snorkel towards the DCI back in the day. It wasn't crazy on the butt dyno but it had to help at least a little, in theory. |

taking out coolant reservoir will get you tons more airflow and a lot less heat Looks great man, I love thinking out of the box.
My oil cooler lines would be in the way though.

If I could retain it, I'd relocate coolant reservoir in a flash. EDIT: BTW robc, I'm also running an Improved Racing thermostat. It's a nice piece! Neil Last edited by MDORPHN; 02-17-2015 at 07:38 PM.. |

Well, damn - that's great news!
Yet another modification I'll get done by mid-March when I begin really pushing the new turbo system (and other recent mods) at my first road course event of the season. I need to get my car ready for its big annual event, the Cannonball One Lap of America May 2-9. This will be the 10th year I've run it and I'm hoping to put on a good show with a strong co-driver for my greatly fortified 1M. Neil |

If you want to get really trick, you can add an intake into the headlight assembly and funnel it right into the intake. That's what I have planned for my single turbo. Got someone in LA who is going to do it.
