What's the silliest car to try to race you?

Just thought of this thread idea this week, during which an old Ford Ranger pickup and a new Honda CRV tried me.

Ranger: turning right onto 4 lane from stoplight, him in front, passed him loafing and while passing heard he basically had it redlined and ripshifting up to next gear. Some high school kid with his girlfriend in there. Felt kinda bad, but went ahead and torched him anyway by about 10 CL's, only going about 70. Then let off, and like a mile later here he comes around me, again redlining that poor little truck as I was turning off. Hopefully, he was able to save face with his honey.

CRV: some soccer mom in brand new Honda CRV who must've had a minivan before because now she thinks she's fast. Tailgating me a little down the 4-lane up to an empty red light and pulls over into the other lane beside me. Got her kid in there in the front seat (my kids, incidentally, both in their car seats in the back, so it's a fair fight) . I'm loafing away from the light and she's on it hard. Waited until Step shifted into 2nd (didn't bother to to even put it in DS) and administered some low end torque without looking like I was trying. Put 5 CL's on her up to about 60 and let off (kids in the back nutty with glee, I'm probably creating monsters). Here she comes 10 sec later tailgating me again until I turn off 20 yards later. Then she cuts across all lanes and turns immediately left. Guess she showed me.

Probably lots of this going on, as this car is apparently still somewhat of a sleeper amongst the general plebe-lic. Funny, no one in a Mustang GT or Charger R/T ever tries it. They know. Of course, you'll get the occasional loud Harley and chipped-lifted-diesel pickup. Extended LOL. Fun stuff.

Two generations back Camry and an early 90s Grand Am. I get cars that miraculously decide they want to accelerate when I am about to pass them. I normally give it enough oomph to keep up with the pass without down shifting.

I did have a dork in an ES350 change into my lane to prevent me from passing him, even though it was clear for me and he would have been in no way inconvenienced. Suffice to say, I passed him on the right; pulling on him in 6th and pretty much walked away with a single down shift to 5th.

Ford ranger..

As I was going 45mph in a 45mph zone he tried to fly by me, so I kept it in 5th gear and nailed it. I started walking instantly had a few car lengths by 65

My friends Volvo:

My friend has a volvo which he has modded a good bit...like 3' downpipe, full exhaust, chip, intake, bov, R badge haha, and a newer turbo of the same size. With all his mods he should have a power advantage and way more torque.

It cant even spin through first with a FWD car, it is automatic, but still, even in the rain, unless wheel is turned.

Well he thinks it is running a low 14 second 1/4 mile.
I walked him by about 5 cars from 40-70, so I highly doubt it.
Its black, with some cheap ASA black chrome lip.

He also was door to door with a Stock IS300 so thats gives what he runs.
Skill by my part on this picture, I was stock then. His is ugly/ghetto

Scion xB was tailgating me once on a freeway at 1 am with just me and him there and no cars around. I switched lanes several times, leting him pass me and go his way. Yet, he was switching lanes with me every time and tailgating me again and again until I pushed it hard and left him like a mile away behind me. Then I shut it down, and drove 70MPH again. several minutes later he was on my tail again flashing his lights. At that point, since there was nobody else on a freeway except two of us, I just stopped completely, and he almost hit me in the back. Then he backed, passed me and finally went his way.

I've had some cool times with unsanctioned events, but I don't get the tail gating people. If somebody doesn't want to race, just let them be. Especially if you get burnt, why press the issue? It's not like I want to race every time I get behind the wheel.

He tried to catch up again.......but I smartly move into the carpool lane.....leaving him in the dust again.

Boxster, older year. 2001-2003 year, it was funny...

how slow that car is, it floored it... I watched it go

then decided to Mash on it...

and pass it like it was standing still

=)

He should've known!

Wait til I get ECU and Exhaust, those two mods will be on soon and I'll be capable of low 12's and yes... I'm still purchasing my 08 M3

lol thanks man i needed that! my favorite part (see bold)... mine would be a scion xb, i mean come on even if rather than 110 hp it had say a 350hp vette motor, that car is slow after 100. it's a box on wheels, 1.0 drag coefficient

Late one night crusing lazily in the 2nd lane @ ~70ish I see some really bright aftermarket lights coming up on me on the left in the fastlane. Definitely a bimmer since they are angel eyes. He sees me and definitely buzzes me w/a high speed pass. I catch a glimpse of some grills on the fenders. I say to myself, "oh shit it's an M5" so I get in right behind him for a closer look.

Get this: it's just a debadged regular 5er (since it didn't have quads) and I am immediately disappointed. He sees me get behind him and he guns it. I guess he takes my interest as an invocation... so not to be out done by this poseur I gradually open up 6th just enough to keep up right behind him (almost threatening to tail him). It was a rush tho because we must have seen 120ish at least. When we pass traffic in the adjacent lane he calls it quits and moves over a lane assuming I will pass him. I don't, and get in right behind him back to my previous lazy pace. I guess he got scared when he saw what my car could do because after that he pulls away really slowly at about 80 and I stay where I'm at and let him go.

Also, the most pathetic thing that has "raced" me was a Civic Si coupe... tried to launch on me at the last stoplight before an on ramp when he could have easily gotten behind me 2 miles before that.
