Gearbox remap done

Well I decided to push the button and order this today.

I will be in receipt of the new software and an OBD programmer to load it into the TCU in a day or 2.

Apparently it can take up to a couple of hundred miles to fully adapt and will keep improving during this period.

I am told to expect:-
1) Torque converter locking up faster
2) faster gear changes (approx. 30%)
3) Faster response from paddle shift to gear change (approx. 50%)

What company did you order your remap? I want to get the TCU remaped for quicker shifts and such but I'm kinda nervous from hearing the hole "Alpina flash is not the right flash for the N54 pre-lci". All confusing. However, if I had something like this that adapts from mileage being driven that sounds like a dream!

Great stuff si let us know how it goes, I'd be more gentle and refresh your gearbox fluid if I were you they'll remove some of the torque limiters, must say the gear changes are sluggish.

Curious to hear your results and see if this is really a trans remap or just an overpriced adaptation resetter. I'd like to know how much time it takes to do the actual flash.

Nope I still have DPF, EGR and Cats fitted - I have all boxes (mufflers) deleted from the exhaust though, it's now straight through for cat back

Its a programmer with a built in OBD plug. So I switch ignition on (without starting engine), plug it in. it beeps a few times, then wait a couple of minutes and it beeps again to confirm its finished.

I asked this too and they said it was not an adaption resetter. If it does the changes they state it is more than adaption reset anyway as 50% paddle delay to shift and 30% faster gear change would be beyond the parameters of OEM adaption program anyway and then there is the TC locking up sooner, again this would not be in the OEM adaption capabilities

That sounds all well and good, and I hope it is a true flasher, but how will you measure any of that to prove it? Without evidence it would be hard to confirm, but maybe we can confirm somehow once you get it. My tuner was very leery about it because he says even the BMW OEM software cannot do a trans flash that quickly. So I'm anxious to hear your results.

If he can log rpm and speed vs time for before and after ... he might be able to test this. If the log is a short enough time step size, he could overlay the results and compare the rpm transitions. A faster shift should show up in less time between high/low rpm transitions. Just a thought ...

It would be pretty easy to tell if the flash worked vs an adaptation reset. There is really not much difference before and after an adaptation reset unless you had some trans codes or something that had popped up. It is, however, pretty easy to notice a 30% decrease in shift time.

exactly and a 50% reduction in paddle delay to shift.

I'm afraid it's going to be Butt Dyno all the way with this one chaps
