Potentially getting Used Alcon BBK - 6pot front | 4pot rear - 335D
Hi guys,
I've been offered a very special set of BBK coming straight off a 335 - Alcon. The calipers will need a refurb. The discs are all used and only the front pads are good. But it's still Alcon and a very respectable brand. Comes with pistons, seals and brackets with are all ofcourse intact and good. I'm tempted to take them and store them for next year as cannot afford to build them back up just yet...but wondered how much interest it might generate on here? What would you guys pay for this particular set? It's history is it's only seen the street (not track) and was bought brand new 2.5 years ago for street use. The discs and rear pads are now worn and the seller is looking to give it up now. I'm never going to track my car but I figured I would get them and store them for another day and build it all back up to my spec and what not to fully complete the car then (where have I heard me saying that before!?) Be keen to know what you guys would price it as. Cheers, |

You need new pads when changing discs...So essentially your looking at new discs, pads all around and calliper refurb.
No idea how much that would be on a proper BBK, but even EBC discs/pads all round on the 335 was around £500, so I guess your looking at minimal £1-1.5k replacement parts on a BBK. Still it's cheaper than having to buy a while new BBK, but only you can decide if the cost is worth it. I looked in to BBKs, and was tempted when Marcel was stripping his 335i and put up his BBK forsale, but overall the costs of buying and maintaing a BBK wasn't worth it for me. Not when my 335i spends 90% of the time stuck in city traffic doing 20 mph |

Have you priced discs and pads? Obviously you cant use the front pads anyway as your renewing the discs. .alcons eat discs but simplified is the outlay worth it to look good behind the wheel? Because thats it in a nutshell ....make sure you choose pads wisely as a lot of them need heat to operate correctly

The alloy bells are in perfect condition so they don't need changing. I guess it's all all down to whether they'll fit behind my wheels too LOL! Any ideas which Pads are good? I read somewhere Pagid RS29 or something were very good. Quote:
But when she does get a spirited run on the motorway I'm sure the difference will be felt. The cost of new Alcon Discs + street pads will near enough be £1.5k. But this is still going to be much cheaper than RRP Alcons, Brembos, AP, Stoptech etc. Ofcourse a brand new K Sport BBK can be had for a fraction of the price but since I have been offered Alcon I'm thinking about it seriously, otherwise I wouldn't bother with a BBK at all. 335 calipers are MASSIVE anyways LOL. |

I do agree BBK looks amazing, its just the cost.
Marcel was selling his stuff for a very very attractive price...but even with such a discount I don't think they have sold....looking at them again, they look very nice http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=959366 |

save your money if i was you. if you dont drive it like you stole it then would there be any point in getting BBK? the brakes on our 330D/335D are the same i think and tbh they are big as you said already and do the job v.well - but if finance wise its not a problem too you then sure go for it!

IMHO..........BBK will make little or No difference in stopping power from 70 Mph, 80Mph, or maybe even 90Mph, On a track Massive difference and a MUST!!!
These are for looks only IMHO. I had a BBK kit fitted on my M3 and really to be honest every day driving felt no difference, even Motorway driving felt little difference. Looks....................Well 100% difference, but then again if it purely looks that is taking your interest to a BBK, get your set blasted, refurbed and sprayed with some yellow pads!

I have these, they're amazing.
You're looking at around £700 for a pair of genuine alcon disks but there are loads of cheaper alternatives. Are you sure they are completely gone as its pretty common practise to skim them before replacing. Plus they look stunning... |

Wow. Looks immense. Do you track? Could you please tell me (PM if you like) what discs and pads you have and the specs please? If I get them I'll building them up so very keen to know your 0.2p please. Also, do you buy Alcon discs or could you match them up with the highly reputable AP discs which I know many people do... and they're often better value. What other alternatives (discs and pads) do you recommend - all road use bear in mind. Is there a website you can chose from? Sam |

^ and yes to add i've read you can use other disks. I'm guessing as long as the bolt holes are in the correct place you should be ok. Also note, alcon use a semi floating disk which (I think) is unique to them, so you may want to have a look into that in regards of getting a disk to fit the bells.
Apart from that they're a fantastic upgrade. They feel perfectly usable at slow speeds and anything above 100 is mind blowing. Your face feels like its about to rip apart.. Then again I'm not sure I could justify the best part of 6K for my callipers to look good. Hopefully you're getting a good deal!! |

Is slotted, drilled or mixed of the two better as I too will be doing road use only - often spirited driving but mainly just normal.
The price I'm getting is good and with everything taken into consideration is still a good chunk off RRP. |
