Has anyone new crack 10s yet?
Hey Fellas,
Got on the forum for some light reading and catching up. I see VTT came out with their new kit that includes the inlets, smart move. Motiv came out with their great single turbo kit, and Terry has it on his car, watch out 1/2 mile! But has anyone other than good ol Shiv crack 10s with all this power flying around? What's the deal? Tony was shooting for the stars with his stage 2+. There's plenty of single turbo guys with big power. Any results? I still got my 3 by the way, driving it here and there. Feel like home every time i get behind the wheel... |

I think the issue is 90% of the BMWs out there are only looking to make big numbers and go fast for roll racing and the like. Not that many true dedicated track cars or even builds (1/4 I mean). So most people do not look into doing suspension mods to plant the power, shift weight to the rear, on top of many other things that need adjusted for 1/4. Just now after years of the n54 platform being out are there more than one option for a dif lockdown kit. I think it can be easily done, someone just needs to dedicate the time and money into doing it. If I didn't already have a dedicated 1/4 mile car and the IS was not my daily, I'd be going to town. Everybody knows bmws do well on the twisties. Not many know what it's capable of at the 1320.

I think Shiv still holds the record but I predict not for much longer. There are plenty of guys making enough power now to break into the 10's - both single turbo set-ups and hybrid twins with adequate intake breathing for the first time. Plus fueling is no longer an issue like in the past.
It is still not easy and if I recall Shiv needed 4 meth nozzles and multiple passes going downhill to finally crack into the 10's. I think by summer you will see a few others surpass his times we'll see. Sick why don't you add your name to the list I think you are pretty close yourself.

I highly doubt it can ever be done with stock turbos. It will take around 130 MPH trap speed what are your traps?

If any N54 will do it on stock turbos is the IS with DCT or the Z435i(s) with DCT
Easier for the Z435i(s) as it is lighter and has better suspension |

I was running up on 120 mph in the trap and that was with spinning, wheel hop, only 30% E85, street tires, and a canned tune. Pretty sure with 60% E85, a better tune, and some more suspension mods + tires, hitting 10's would be possible IMO.

Check drag times. The only car in the 10's is Shiv's trapping 131 MPH. Next highest trap speed is Hotrod182 running 11.1 at 129 MPH. Cars trapping 124 MPH run around 11.4's.

It's not the power, it's the chassis. There's probably a hundred people on this board who make the power to do 10s and to trap those types of speeds.

BMW owners just typically do not build drag cars... There is a lot to the sport. It's not just about how much power you are making. I think it is safe to bet that at least 75% of people on this board have even took a car down the 1/4 let alone ever try and build a 1/4 mile car... I'm not saying I'm a pro or anything because I am still learning, but just to give you an idea, I've been building my 2005 Saleen Mustang since 2008. I had it since 2006, blew the motor with the supercharger, and after that turned it into a complete 1/4 car. Until you actually start doing it, there is a lot that you will never know about. I can't even tell you how many parts I tried and then replaced because they just didn't work right or that I went from wanting something that does well on the street to does well on the track. |

Transmission + chassis + power. You need all three. And you need the interest to take on the 1/4 mile. Many choose to avoid 1/4 mile racing because of the abuse it puts on transmissions and drive lines.

Things start to break in a hurry when you go to the strip with a big power car.

I race 1/4 miles...from a 60 mph roll
In all seriousness there are guys making power for 10s already. Just need all the stars to align. If the DCT was as easy to launch as the AT I think more cars would be there already. Maybe we will see a tuned XI break into the 10s this year. |

The 335i crowd just doesn't seem to hit the strip like other platforms and/or have the ambition to beat up their cars to try, I can't blame them either. I remember every other time going to the track back in the day problems always arose. Either bad track prep that caused me to spin more then on the street, wheel hop or something breaks. If someone wants to run 10's on this platform they are going to need to be on slicks and have all the right suspension, clutch and upgraded axles. |

Once I start getting my build going more I will be posting videos and times slips at the drag, unlike many people on here. I agree most people do roll racing which I greatly enjoy as well. I plan on breaking 10s And keeping it completely streetable . watch out for me this season as tthings will start to come together

I wish I could say that. My z06 runs low 11's bone stock and it bores me
I remember back in the day when I was happy with low 13's. Then low 12. It never ends haha. Quote:

Dragstrip opens here in April. I will break into the 10's this year or die trying. All my new mods are focused on this goal.
