OEM Alarm Installed E93 w/o Dealer Activation

I retrofitted the OEM alarm into my '08 E93 this AM, which was pre-wired for the alarm. Took about 30 mins. It was so simple and the instructions so clear that I didn't take pics. Here is the link to a DIY: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1487

Dealer activation of the OEM alarm being something that is required after installation has been discussed on the forum and it appears that some cars require dealer activation while others do not.

In my case, the clown nose came on immediately...the first time I locked the car after the installation. I then hooked up the BMWhat WiFi dongle and it picked up the DWA ECU without a problem. I was able to code the audible lock confirmation and panic alarm feature, both of which worked perfectly after the coding.

I then jacked up the car to test the alarm and...it went off as it is designed to do.

SO...I was able to install the OEM alarm in my car WITHOUT going to the dealer for activation. I'm not sure how much the BMWhat app has to do with whether dealer activation is needed or not, but...in my case, the alarm in my car did NOT need dealer activation.

I wrote to the guys at BMWhat to tell them this because I had asked them by Email last week whether or not they thought the alarm would require dealer activation or whether the BMWhat app could do this. They wrote back (almost immediately...thank you!) and said "Unfortunately activating the retrofitted alarm is too special for BMWhat at the moment. If we get this question more often though, we’ll start working on it :-)". Again, maybe some cars do while other don't. I'm happy to say mine was in the latter category (...unless the BMWhat app does more than they think?).

BTW - I ordered the alarm (now on sale!) from Evan at Tischer on Tuesday and received it yesterday (Friday)...thanks Evan!!!! I then ordered (4) used DWA sensors* from Germany on EBay at $14 each + shipping.

(*These are normally over $100 each...$83 from Tischer.)

How did you install it? I just ordered mines. How much did you get yours for at Tischer? Your diy link doesnt show anything other than a thread about alarm motion sensor. Was it easy to install? I havent receive my kit yet. Also, what is the DWA sensors for and how was it installed?

Sorry about that bad link. Not sure what happened there. It's correct now.

I got it from Evan at Tischer for $157.59 = $2.95 handling. No charge for the two day shipping.

Was VERY easy to install. Took about 30 mins for my car (E93) since the interior sensors are optional in the convertible. Only two things to install: The hood switch and the siren/DWA ECU unit in the left rear wheel well.

All very straightforward. Here is the link to the PDF of BMW's installation instructions for the E93: https://www.bavauto.com/Assets/inst_pages/ins402.pdf ; Here it is for the E90/92: http://www.bavauto.com/Assets/inst_pages/INS349.pdf

The DWA sensors are the (4) motion sensors they use in the convertible instead of the ultrasonic sensor that goes in the roof console of the sedan and coupe...one for each door of the vert and one in each rear interior quarter panel. These are also DIY but the rear panels are kind of a PITA. I removed them for my interior project and don't really look forward to doing it again, but...
