I suspect one of the CA modules in a door handle could be the cause. Try to unplug them one at a time if the power and ground are good and no problems with the connection.

yes they have on both. thank you for the assistance and diagrams. Along with the doors, I can only start the car with the fob inserted.
Would you know if replacing the comfort access module is a huge problem? requires programming? dealer visit? I have the p/n and some are on ebay for $100. Brand new it is $300. Basically, my CA died one day without notice. every feature does not work. FOB has new batteries, and the FOB itself works perfectly to lock/unlock/trunk. My car is out of warranty.
