Thumbs up Stett Performance Intake Installed...Initial Impressions/Dyno/Pics

Hey guys,

Just got my Stett Performance cold air intake installed and dyno'd yesterday. I picked the car up late last night but because of the weather, I didn't get a whole lot of testing done. More on that later.

I've attached a picture of the Stett intake but this is not my car. I haven't gotten around to taking pics of mine yet.

My car is stock with only the BMC drop-in panel filter (now for sale). The car only has about 2000 miles on it. Just barely broken in.

The dyno was done yesterday as well. It was done on a dynojet at 58 degrees with relatively high humidity, SAE, with a smoothing of 5. Here's what we got:

Before Stett CAI (stock car with only BMC drop-in filter):

271 hp/275 tq

After Stett CAI (stock car with just the CAI):

278.8 hp/283 tq

Now I'm sure your saying, wow, those aren't stellar gains. But there's a few things to consider.

The BMC filter is supposedly the drop-in filter with the largest gains. I believe some have dyno'd 8-10 hp/tq increases over stock on an otherwise stock car. So on a completely stock car with the paper filter, this intake would be putting down an additional 8-10 hp/tq over my results that you see above. Unfortunately, there was no bone stock run because of my mistake. I forgot to throw my paper filter in the trunk. I know this isn't the most ideal dyno because you would want a bone stock run in there as well but that's my fault, not Stett's. So please don't blame them.

Something else to consider, everyone else knows the stock airbox is the largest restriction once you add a tune to the car. There is a fellow e90 member who has exhaust, DP's, v2, FMIC(I think) who is also getting the same intake installed today or tomorrow. They are expecting gains of 20-30 rwhp like many others have stated as being possible with a good intake design once added on top of a tune. Hopefully he will chime in with his results. So the more mods you have, the more you will benefit from this intake.

The weather has been absolutely horrible in Dallas. Cold (lows in the 20's), rainy, and humid. It's supposed to snow/sleet in the morning tomorrow, so I don't expect a lot of WOT testing done this week.

My initial impressions are that the increased sound is fantastic. The few WOT runs I did the sound was great, noticed more at higher RPM. The gains on the dyno seemed to show more of the power coming from the intake at higher RPM. Which is great because that's where the power drops off on these cars. That's where I felt the power on my butt dyno as well. It also felt like it got to redline slightly quicker but that's probably attributed to the gains at the higher RPM band.

I'm not claiming this is the end all of mods, but its a quality-built, smartly-designed intake. The filter is a real K&N cone/barrel design and it is located in a similar area to that of the VIP one. Slightly above the left brake duct. There is a piece you can remove in your lower left mesh that can add additional airflow down there as well. It is high enough to where hydro-locking is not an issue. You'd have to dunk the intercooler first.

Since there is not a lot of intakes out for 335's at this time, I think its a great new product in the market and a great option to those looking to add sound and power to their car.

Install consists of removing the stock airbox and pulling back the left fender lining to get the filter installed and brake duct piece removed.

For those wanting to know more about Stett. They will be bringing their shop online in about a month. So you will be able to buy this intake online instead of having to be in or around DFW to get it. They will also be selling a larger upgraded intercooler (which looks sick!), a charge pipe with Forge or Tial diverter/blowoff valves, and a couple of clutch kits which will be added in the coming months. There's a few rumors of piggybacks/ECU reflashes floating around, but nothing concrete at this point. (Mods if this is paragraph is not appropriate, please feel free to delete from my post). I will leave off the pricing and their website, as I've seen it get deleted from others posts. Please don't PM me for pricing. If the mods say its ok, I will post it ASAP.

Other than that, if you have any questions about the product, feel free to post them. I'll do my best to answer them or find an answer for you.

EDIT: Pictures of my actual production intake have been added.

That looks great! That is exactly the Y shape I was looking for in an intake. I am sure O-cha will love it...

They should be available online on Stett's website in about a month. I'm not sure if you can call them and order it that way. Give a shot. Chad, the owner is a great guy.

Wow, that badboy looks nice. I've been patiently awaiting some intakes for our cars, most of them are very high priced for what you get. I sent an e-mail to Stett performance (did a google search) for more information. If it's priced well it will be mine!!!! muahhhhhhh!!

So is this a no go with a blow off valve? Seems like it wont fit.

A BOV should take up less room than the Forge DV's their large hoses seen in the photo...

I believe the owner of the car that I attached has the charge pipe with the diverter valves. Not 100% certain but you can kind of make it out underneath the intake.

But to answer your question, the charge pipe (where the blow-off/diverter valves are located) is completely seperate from this intake and are 100% compatable with it. No worries.

I believe this is the only color they have it in at this time. I can try to pass on your request though. I thought black would be sweet as well.

Cool. It's interesting to see all these different approaches to the intake. Just waiting to see Vish's and Helix's now. Who's going to be the first to try something crazy like completely rerouting the intake paths. I guess it's pretty tight around the engine but it's possible.

This is schneid's car, the pictures are from the pre-production prototype. In the original thread ppl kept bitching about the weld on top of the intake, they could not understand this is not a production unit. Shoot some new pics of your car, I am pretty curious.

Yea, it's schenid's car. I couldn't remember off the top of my head if it was the pre-prod. intake or not. But its exactly the same, the welds should be cleaned up on the retail version like mine. I'll shoot a pic when I can. Maybe as soon as tonight.

I'm picking my car up tonight or tomorrow morning....I'm very interested in what kind of numbers my car puts down. I don't have FMIC....going from the stock airbox to the Stett intake. I'll post pics and dynos as soon as I have them.

I've been looking for an intake for awhile now and I know we can't post prices, but i'll say its the best deal out there for an intake IMHO. Google Stett, call them up and ask for prices.

Sorry bro. It was dark and rainy last night when I was leaving. I was trying to get a good look at your car as I was driving out. Must have been the stock IC. It was tough to tell. Let me know the results. Your car is going to be a beast!

Hmmm...I am open to getting that if the delta on the dyno shows good gain. I am more interested to see how it will work for a v2 proceeded car.
