Engine temperature goes over 250F
Hi,
I had a water pump issue last week so I got it replaced. I never actually paid attention to the temperature, but mine goes over to 250F (about 120 in celsius). Is this normal??? I think I've seen it goes up to 220 or so, but not 250. Last edited by littlehuman; 02-25-2015 at 02:12 PM.. |

That seems normal, our computers have different temperature setpoints based on driving conditions.
See page 67 of this tech manual: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8p...ew?usp=sharing 250 Deg F is close to the eco mode setpoint. Sounds normal to me. |

why are we talking Fahrenheit on a car that is all metric?
anyway, the eco mode is 112c. that's 233f. 250f is 120c and overheating technically. are you sure whatever gage you're using to get that number is accurate? because at 120c the yellow coolant warning light comes on. if it is truly running that hot, your waterpump and thermostat are probably done. |

Are you confusing the oil temp gauge with water temp? On most of our cars, the gauge shows oil, not water temp. We just get an idiot light for water overtemp.

Seems rather warm to me! And is higher than the high temperature Eco mode.

I also seem to think it's an E92 thing - very odd. I do like the econometer that my E90 has, but I would prefer to be able to see the engine temperature, and it's not as if there is not enough space on the cluster to have added a temperature gauge.

Most importantly... As it now appears to be confirmed an oil temp gauge and not coolant, a reading of 250 degrees makes perfect sense.
