High IATs from reading JB4
Hey guys,
I have been noticing that my IATs are reading pretty high in my car, and seems like something is weird. My IATs are never less then about 30degrees over ambient. I have checked them with the car running and off. This morning my car had been off and in the garage for 12 hours, gauges in car showed 53 degrees, JB4 showed 82 degrees with car off and ACC mode turned on. Reading people's posts, I am hearing about getting IATs close to ambient with and aftermarket intercooler. I am running the VRSF 5" intercooler and VRSF chargepipe. Any thoughts on this? |

There's probably something wrong with the sensor in your car. If the car isn't turned on the IAT should read very close to ambient. Consistent cruising while off boost will also read close to ambient, whether you're on the OEM intercooler or aftermarket.

thanks for the reply. Do you happen to know how the N55 gets it's IAT numbers? I have been searching google for "IAT sensor location" and not finding anything useful.
Is it a sensor by itself, or combined into some other unit? |

IAT should be measured by the MAF.

Try cleaning the MAF but be careful as it's fragile. Does your car have an aftermarket intake?
Edit- Wait, where does the N55 read intake air temp, at the intake or pre throttle body like N54. If it's like the N54, then clean that sensor. It won't be the one in the intake. Last edited by Jeff@TopGearSolutions; 03-03-2015 at 04:54 PM.. |

Finally got the JB4 back onto the car and still seeing the same issue.
Any thoughts on cleaning the sensor out with some brake cleaner? Would that cause me some worse issues? Also, does anyone have a part number to just order a new one? |

Are you running the 6cyl test firmware? If so, one of them reads about 30f high. Flash to different firmware and it will be fine. I had the same issue.

![]() Buy some CRC MAF sensor cleaner for 5 bucks at any parts store. You don't want any residue on that thing. Spray her down, air dry a few mins, plug her back in. Don't need to go ham, but its ok to spray it down pretty good. That can should last you the rest of your life.
