OEM Exhaust mod near Boston?

Are there any places in or around Boston that will do the exhaust mod for a decent price? Thanks!

This shouldn't take any shop more than 2 hours to accomplish. I've been looking into getting this done myself.

I did see a guy who has a nice DIY (i'll post link soon as I can find it) Where he uses exhaust tape to wrap the perforated pipe then applies 2 3" clamps side by side over the tape to seal it up good. Seems like it accomplishes the same thing without having to remove and re-weld the straight pipe. You would only need to cut open the muffler and then weld it closed again.

BMW PE installed or did they actually open up the stock exhaust for the "PE Mod"?

Don't do it mannnnnn, I thought about this once and then after talking to a couple buddies who work at BMW and the BMW techs I decided it wasn't a good idea and went with a PE exhaust...you can read about it all over the web but when you start messing with back pressure you can mess with the turbos...you're basically going straight pipe by doing this "mod" and I've heard from multiple people that it isn't a good idea on these cars

let me just phrase this all by saying I am not an expert on the subject (although i am an engineer) but just wanted to add my 2 cents and say my recommendation is to spend the extra bucks and go with a nice exhaust rather than modding the stock one...just looking out for a fellow member don't hate me

Thanks for the advice. I want a single set up Corsa/vrsf/Cobb for weight savings etc. I do think the Bmw PE is maybe the best sounding for our cars

I thought the results of modification of the stock exhaust was ultimately the same thing as the PE exhaust?

I'd say that is a "dealership" mentality. All of the tuning houses recommend a more free-flowing exhaust when going with further than "Stage 1" tune. Provided, I'd probably recommend finding a PE or going VRSF for the weight savings as well as being able to return to stock easily. Doing the PE mod is not technically straight pipe as the midpipes / cats are still inline before the mufflers.

Keep in mind the PE is a BMW produced part, and offered as an option/accessory.

The less backpressure the better on this motor. The easier the exhaust gases escape the better. The Corsa or revised VRSF 3.5'' are the best options on the market: both light weight and performance orientated.

That being said Terry made fine power on his single with the stock exhaust in place.

Sorry meant "muffler delete" not "straight pipe" my bad

I'd agree that a more free flowing exhaust is always good for a NA engine, but not necessarily for turbos...turbo spooling can be faster with some backpressure, without it there is chance for loss in boost.

And totally agree that any chance BMW gets they are going to stuff high priced accessories down your throat lol so of course they are going to recommend the PE

Also I think with a tune all this goes out the window because I would assume they would account for these things in a tune so that might be why they disregard it?

Any videos of your exhaust? You happy with it, volume inside the car, drone, anything?

I just ordered the BMW Performance exhaust.....this is an item I will most likely sell once VRSF releases their revised exhaust. The videos online of Catless DP's and PE sound perfect to me....haha
