Royal Purple ATF
So long story short...I'm sick of the rubbish GM Transmission. The shifting is jerky, the car can't decide on which gear it wants to be in and I just completely regret getting the car in auto. I love everything about the car except the transmission. Even when I tried to have some fun with the car a few weeks ago in the snow in my buddies truck lot the car actually stalled when drifting and then at another point I had the yellow gear / exclamation light come on after a short time (hasn't been on since) ending my fun. I'm pretty sure that my transmission isn't fucked and that the GM transmission is just that bad from other posts I've seen with the same shit.
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=109957 I'm tempted to sell and opt for a 6 speed however that won't be for a couple months if I decide to take that route. I'm considering draining the transmission fluid and putting Royal Purple Max ATF. I use the Royal Purple HPS 5W30 oil in my car right now and have always been a big fan of their products. The reviews on Amazon aren't too shabby either. You guys think its worth doing the ATF fluid like would it make a difference and should I give my car one more chance or should I just leave it and swap for a 6MT. |

Eh, been on a bit of a hold. I spoke with Mark from MRP Machine Co. who sells the custom MAF on eBay. He makes a 3.5" one and a 4" one ($92 for the 3.5" and $78 for the 4" for some reason) so I am still debating which one to get. I was actually going to ask you guys your opinion if you think having 4" would be too excessive or should I go for the 3.5"...I've been so busy lately between work and side work and haven't been on the forums. I'm trying to make the intake as cost effective as possible but unfortunately the $20 Spectre MAF pipe didn't work out. The piping won't be hard to figure out I'm still just on the MAF step as we speak. So 3.5" or 4"?

was wondering how do you like the royal purlple for your engine, and what were the advantages/benefits versus let's say the Castrol 5W40?
I also need to change my transmission oil, however it's not cause it has issues, I want to do it before it happens, I would of thought the original bmw atf transmission oil would be the safest bet? |

That's funny Spicys is literally down the block from me...you go up station road make a right on woodside and my complex is right there.
The oil has been fine...honestly no difference...I've only changed it once since I've bought the car I haven't had it very long. TheAxiom...I use Mobil 1 0W-40 in my CLK55 AMG and the car has been problem free for literally 3 years now...so that might speak volumes. I just wanted to give the 'HPS' a shot in the BMW. I will probably do a filter change and fluid once the snow is gone. Hopefully it helps...if not bye bye to this car and hello to 6 speed. |

Yeah you're right. Coming from a stage 2+ B5 S4 in 6MT I really miss the fun factor. I have a 2003 CLK55 AMG also so that's really my fun 'auto' car.

By the way if anyone is interested Royal Purple wrote me back with this today: Yes, the Royal Purple Max ATF (part #01320, quart bottle) is exactly what we recommend using in your 2007 BMW 328xi GA6-L45R GM automatic transmission. The Max ATF is chemically compatible with, and a great replacement for the Dexron VI fluid that is specified for your automatic transmission. The total dry fill capacity is listed at 10 quarts. Max ATF: http://www.royalpurpleconsumer.com/p...mission-fluid/ You may have noticed that on the back label of the Max ATF and on our web site we state that the Max ATF is not recommended for Dexron VI. The reason why we state the Max ATF is not recommended for Dexron VI is due to warranty issues. The Max ATF is chemically compatible with, and works great in place of the Dexron VI fluid. However, due to a slight viscosity difference between the Dexron VI and Max ATF, the Max ATF would not be considered a warranty compliant fluid for automatic transmissions that came factory filled with the Dexron VI fluid. Thank you for choosing Royal Purple, and have a great day! Best Regards, Cody Bartkowiak

never liked my GM auto either. DS downshifts are unpredictable, particularly 3->2, so I drive in D or M. Have drained and filled twice. Seems to help at first but eventually it goes back...maybe I'm imagining the improvement. |

Yeah it seems like 2-3 is the biggest issue on this transmission...my transmission sucks more in D but shifts fine in DS...however it holds the gears forever and obviously gives a lot worse gas mileage for standard driving. Really should have gave us the ZF too.
