Went to 1/4 strip last night, equipped with my new goodies which include Michelin PS2's, V2 with 100 octane running at 98 % torque settings, and cool temps 60 (last time I went it was 75). Ive had v2 for a while, just never run at 98 octane. I let it adapt with the race gas and new torque settings.

Last time I went out with Stock Run Flats, v2 set at 90% torque settings and temps in the 75. I was able to pull of at 12.84 at 109.36.

Last night no matter how hard I tried, I couldnt do anything better than a 12.91. What gives. One thing I noticed was my 0-60 times got worse, best i could do last night was a 2.2, last time I was pulling 2.1's with RFTS. Also I trapped higher last night at 111.58, where as last time highest trap was 109.36. Im confused??

So my question is, for those of you guys running better tires such as PS2's, what rpm are you guys launching. I have a 6 MT, with the stock sport package wheels. 265's out back.

Your 60' times are all traction/launch based. Your HP increase is showing in your trap speeds. I personally will take a higher trap speed over a good 60' time any day. With more horsepower/higher traps, at least you know that you will generally be able to get a better 1/4 mile time also, once you get your traction situation sorted out. As I have stated before, the factory RFT setup is not that bad. Some of my best 60' times were on the RFTs. And is your PS2s are really fresh, then traction will not be at an optimum. When my tires were new, they were very slippery. It takes them some time to wear-in, probably 3000 miles before you get your best traction results.

thats a nice trap speed! Do you have any other mods other than V2? How long did you drive around to let the car adapt to the 98?

if you really want good 60 ft times you need drag radials....no other way around it.

I think to get better traction and to compensate for the extra HP/TQ, you need wider tires. You can hardly see the difference between 255RFT vs 265PS2, is not such BIG advantage other than better driving experience I'll say.

I would not have PS2. They are excellent tires for maxing trap speed: Their rolling resistance is low, and traction is poor (considering the power). Get sticky tires if you want good ETs.

The PS2's stuck, its just I was bogging, I need to find the perfect RPM to drop at. I was trying to feather them, but it was just a bad night. I need to practice more. No Drag Radials for me, I dont have the money for that right now. Plus I dont hit the track enough to justify those. Track is 2 hours away for me. It was fun though, my friend handed my ass to me with his Ford F150 Lightning, he ran a 12.41 at 112.

Did he run DRs on the Lightning? Certainly not stock!, Pulley, Gears, CAI, Exhaust++??

My experience at the track with PS2s is that they have terrible traction off the launch pad. Even if I walk it off the line, they just get blown away above 3K making 1st gear worthless. Second isn't much better. My best trap with V2.0.2 is 108.12 but me E.T. are in the mid-low 13s. The street is a different story, and they stick very well.

I should qualify this by saying I only have 6 passes at the track in two outings because Firebird raceway is so busy usually that it's nearly impossible to get 4+ runs in unless you want to stay all night. Both times I was there the temps were in the high 40's-low 50's and I was running the tire pressure the manual recommends for sustained cruise speeds above 100mph.

I just have to learn how to launch because others are running the 6AT and PS2s with V2 and aren't having any trouble. There is a 2nd dragstrip in my area which is supposedly less busy so I'm trying that one next time.

That's amazing. It always impresses me when a truck can run times like that with such a small percentage of the vehicle weight over the rear wheels.

I disagree. I have them on my car and on the street they are incredibly sticky - which is why I bought them. But they're not drag radials. It's more about the driver than the tires at the track - if it wasn't, I would be running high 12's at 108-110 instead of low 13s. My problem is I can't drive

My buddy has Drag Radials and a bigger pulley down low. Its fast. I was so impressed. As for my tires, on the street, they are incredible, they never break loose, the track was a little different though, but they are not the problem. Its me. Those of u running PS2's, what rpm are you launching at. With my RFT's I used to launch at 1600 rpm's.

Yeah, im very happy with the Trap Speed I got, its just the 0-60 times that stunk. The tires are incredible, I just need more practice. My track last night was busy as hell. The first pass was just to let the car adapt to the higher octane with the higher torque settings, then the next two passes is all I had to work with.

Glad to hear you like the PS2's. I will look at them in the spring to replace my run flats. At least I will have something to look forward to; right now I am running on Blizzak snows!

I agree that PS2s are very sticky on the street. I have had them on my 335i and another vehicle. I plan to get them for the Z06 when I wear down the factory runflats.

I launch between 2200-2600rpms w/ a bouncing rev. Feather the clutch before flooring it or all you get is wheelspin. If I launch at or above 3000 rpms the turbo's hit too hard and I spin, but this was w/ v1.47 so v2 may require a bit different launch as the tq spike is not as bad.

I managed a 1.9x on the stock runflats this way.

Damm 2200 to 2600, I was launching last night between 1600 to 2000. Damm I should of gone up higher. What do you mean "w/ a bouncing rev".

I basically rev up to around 1800, keep it level there and then drop the clutch, slowly rolling off the clutch to keep tire spin in check. Obviously this is not working.

My PS2's, maybe have 300 miles on them. They did feel really slippery, I can't really describe it, but I had to ask my friend on one of the runs if he could see If I was slipping. But on one run they bit hard, just not quickly enough I guess.

On the streets they do grip amazingly, Im guessing at the track due to the different surface its a different game.
