More track time info...

I just got back from Thunderhill...where I was participating as an coach/instructor for Hooked on Driving. It was the annual coach/instructor orientation class..where we roll played for several sessions..changing rolls back and forth..as mock student..and instructor/coach. Temperature was about 40-54 degrees...it looked like it was gonna rain all day long..but never did. As such I didnt bring my R compounds..but drove on my regular street tires...Goodyear F1-D3s. Overall the event went very well...the car didnt go into limp mode..didnt get oil temps over about 260...and my alcon brakes worked flawlessly. Got lots of compliments from other instructors on how my car was working on track...even without the R compound tires. Yes, the Goodyears squealed a bit at times..when I got them too hot..but overall the staggered set up really hooked up and allowed me to exit out of a few 90 degree turns very quickly. BTW, for those of you who were following my oil temp problems before..I had gone back to the standard BMW synthetic..and got rid of the heavier Motorsport oil prior to the event.

Another fun fact...my BMW service advisor is one of the guys that was on track with me...driving a Mini Cooper. I told him about my brake pad warning light..and will go in next week to get that looked at for the THIRD time. UGH.

Anyway, thats all from me...next event will probably be the Hooked on Driving event at Laguna Seca on Friday Feb 29th.

sounds like fun. How was the tire wear? I had a similar experience at Willow this month. High of 54 degrees, no oil temp or limp home problems and I ran the SSTT this time with oil temps also at around 260. I did however drive a students auto 335i without the oil cooler, and although it did not shut down, oil temps hoovered around 300 or at the end of his guage which ends at 300, not 340. Makes you wonder what really is going on with overheating issues. Ambiant air has to be the problem within the combustion process. I guess we're back on the intercooler discussion again.

I suggest that you tell the BMW techs to upgrade your PROGMAN to fix the problems.

It's cool this SA is track-friendly.
I always wondered about this & the brakes warranty. If the SA finds out you're tracking your car, would they deny your brake pads warranty or any other warranties? One SA at a dealership told me that if they find out, they'll void your warranty but he wasn't specific.
I gotta change my brake pads before the standard warranty replacement anyway after going to track a few times & was planning to put OEM pads.

Yeah..Laguna is a popular place. You could try the Audi club on Sat/Sun right after the Hooked on Driving event....

http://www.audiclubgoldengate.org

I think they still have a few spaces left. They want me to instruct at that event..but I cannot.

Park..my friend in Orem asked me to come out again for the ACNA MMP event in April and share his car. I am not sure I can afford the airfare/hotel/food/instructor fee this time...and they are only running the west track. I think some motorcycle guys will be on the east track. I might be there..you never know.

Oh yeah..that would be less expensive.. this is a leased car..not gonna make the trek from NorCal to SLC Utah, and back, in a leased car. I am already over my quota on miles as it is this year. Now, if I could get my friend to trailer my car..that is something different.

Im undermileaged.
Just trailer it, less miles, and you still get to drive the car you want!
