Smog question - Can we renew smog checkup without smog requirement on reg renewal?

I barely passed by smog inspection a little over a year ago, and I want to put back on my straight pipes. However before I do that I'd like to be able to keep them on for another 2 years.

Is it possible to get a regular smog checkup now so I don't have to for another two years?

Unless it's changed recently, you have to smog within 90 days of when your registration is due.

So I can't just pull into a smog shop today and not have to smog in a year?
