Anybody break a lease with LeaseBusters, etc?

So I'm looking at taking a job in the US, but I need to unload my E92 328i.

Has anyone had any success getting out of their lease via BMW, LeaseBuster-type websites, etc? I'm in Vancouver.

How upside down are you? BMW leases are easy to break as you only need pay out the principal. Might be easier to sell the car rather than using leasebusters.

I've had my 330i on leasebusters for a while. First I was thinking about getting a wagon instead, and now I'm planning to go car-free for a while. But, absolutely zero enquiries so far. I've had more luck with responses on Craigslist.

It could be that my payment is relatively high since my 330i is loaded with tons of options, but it may also be that with the US imports and all the uncertainty about the economy the market for these cars is softening.

leasebusters

I had success with my 07 Lexus IS350 sport pack. However my deal was pretty sweet. I originaly put almost 15,000 due on delivery with 4500 of that being my security deposit. I asked for my 4500 back plus the new lessee pay the transfer fee of 452 tax in. It was gone in two weeks. The car had some paint damage to the front bumper 17,000km. What a heap. I have ordered a 135i and I'm sure I'll be happy with my next choice.
If I were to have handed the car back into the dealer, they wanted to keep my security deposit plus I would have had to pay 6000.00. All of this thanks to the canadian dollar and the mess in the states. So I took the lesser of two evils and I'm thankful I got rid of it. Huge loss after only 9 months though.

Off topic, what was wrong with the IS350? I think they look beautiful and it probably went like stink!

I am thinking of getting into an SUV for the size, but would probably lose quite a bit trying to unload a 5 month old xi right now...

I had to take the 350 in multiple times to get the dash taken apart and insulated as well as some other type of sound deadening that you could see once the dash was put back together. It creaked more than an old hardwood floor!! The power was ok but I am looking to go much faster hence the 135i which I will mod. The lack of performance mods for the lexus made it extremely boring. I took it to the track once in stock trim and ran a 13.6 @ 102, the car had a tenth or two more in it but I didn't bother, it's still to slow.

Only1,

I'm in the same boat. Put a downpayment down to keep my monthly payments low. If I wanted to get rid of the car now, a new buyer would benefit from the low payments. At the very least I want to get my security deposit back but it would be nice to get a bit of money as well to make up for it. At this point, I'm just going to keep the car and get as much as my money's worth as I can. I'm almost at the 9 month mark as well and it's just not worth selling the car now unless A) i can't afford the payments or B) somebody would be willing to make up some of the difference.

Thanks for the advice, I'll stick to Craigslist for a while or just keep it.

I assumed a lease for my e90/335i. Lets just say the original owner practically gave it to me. He lost 8k of his original DP, his deposit and had to pay the $1100 transfer fee, plus 6 months of payments.

Basically I got a 6 month old e90/335i Sport, Premium, PDC, Step & paddles, USB for $2k and $750 a month taxes and tire warranty inclusive.

The car is flawless just had a little above average mileage 20k allowed a year he had 14K by 6 months, which is no problem for me becuase I average 1k a month.

He had it listed for 4 months before I came along and took it over.

He also gave me the BMW umbrella, storage net, and the $50 GC from the BMWStore.

The seller always loses in breaking a lease so only do it if you must.

I found a deal on craigslist for a lease takeover for an E92 335i with a payment under $500 (including taxes). Basically the owner had leased the car out for 2 years but put a huge down payment, something like $20,000 which I suspect was a trade in. The remaining lease term was for one year but I was too late e-mailing the seller. All the seller wanted in return was $2500 which included the transfer fee.

From a buyers perspective, I refuse to pay any down payment for a lease takeover but I am willing to split the transfer fee. I can't imagine anyone who is willing to hand over a huge down payment + transfer fees for an lease takeover, it makes no sense.

Not bad, not bad! haha

If I was taking over a lease, I wouldn't want to put any down or pay the seller anything as well...maybe split the transfer fee but that's it

Be weary of deals that are too good to be true! A lot of people are leasing through independent leasing companies and guaranteeing a higher residual than what the OEM sets the rate at in order to benefit from the lower monthly payments. When they realize the value of the car is a lot lower than the GUARANTEED buyback, they try to unload the car in order to avoid paying more for the car than what its worth. Just be careful and ask questions!

Very interesting......I know someone who's leasing a M5 and his payments are under $800 taxes included and I always wondered how his payments were so cheap.

I used Leasebuster's to get out of one of my MX5's.
My payment was very low due to putting down $10,000.
I needed more than 2 two seat roadsters.
Look at my wife and you'll know why

Yup, I've noticed quite a few US imports been posted on craigslists with leasing options from various banks.

a) your payment is relatively low
b) you offered a decent incentive
c) 328xi appeals to a wider market....a young guy in his 20's and a mother in her 40's would be interested in this car than say a fully loaded 335i.

i got rid of my E93 on leasebusters. It took about 3 weeks. By switching to the E92, i wound up saving almost $9k over three years, including the lease takeover costs. And to be honest, there weren't a ton of days to go naked last summer.

It is rare to see a really great deal posted on the site. For example, im now in an 2008 E92 335 with 19 inch OEM sport, premium, bluetooth (Loaded, but no navi or auto), and I'm just over $900 taxes in.
There's a lot of really expensive 335s up on leasebusters.

I would be interested to know what kind of deals (on a lease) people are walking out of BMW dealerships with now.

I used leasebusters to get rid of my previous car (Acura CSX) so I can get the BMW I currently have on order. The lease was transferred within a week of the ad being posted! I was surprised it went that fast considering there was less than a year left on the lease, but I actually had quite a few people contact me.
