Pulled over for PAINTED REFLECTORS?

i know it's illegal but damn, i cant believe the CHP officer spotted it!

i barely merged onto the freeway in the far right lane and the CHP was one lane over. his car was towards the back half of my car then he gets behind me.

CHP: do you know why i pulled you over?
ME: no i dont
CHP: you removed your orange reflectors and have tinted front windows. it's illegal not to have the reflectors. that's a $500 fix it ticket. can you afford that?
ME: no i cant
CHP: and your tints, why did you tint the front window? do you have a medical condition?
ME: no i dont
CHP: it says you wear corrective lenses, do you have them on?
ME: yes, im wearing contacts
CHP: let me see

so i remove my sunglasses and he goes ok. how the hell is he supposed to know im wearing clear contacts! so he leaves and comes back.

CHP: i'm gonna let you go this time on a warning. this warning is logged into our database so if you get pulled over again for this same very reason, your fine will go up to $1000. blah blah blah. by the way, why did you remove your 328 emblem?
ME: because it looks nicer w/o it.

then he goes off telling me how all the new BMW's with their redesigned front end have the new reflectors this way.

all this time, i'm thinking "this jerk off CHP has a BIMMER too! probably an E9x"

i dont know whether to laugh or be pissed off.

watch out for your reflectors guys! this was off 237 and 101.

I bet you the cop is on e90post and has a modded bimmer himself. How much is a stock relfector anyways?

I though its perfectly legal to tint the front windows if its no more than 30% in the fronts?

omg are you serious??? i wonder if there's anyone else on e90post that's been pulled over for that. what a dick. i'm sure it's due to it being the end of the month and the chp's in our region not meeting their quotas. haha

I'm sorry for pulling you over. I'm trying to meet my quota before the summer starts in order to buy more mods.

yeah but i was in the drivers seat and he was outside the car on the passenger side. i highly doubt he'd see the thin line on a gloomy day like this.

Yeah man, I wear contact lenses sometimes too and you have to really look close at the eyes to see the circular lines around your pupils. You should've told the dude that you spent all your money for a Lasik surgery so you have no more bread to pay for the tickets!

[QUOTE=stooken;2061645]i still have my stock reflectors. i told him that i'd put it back on.

where did you hear about the front being no more than 30%? i'm at 35%.

http://www.tintcenter.com/laws/CA/

California Tint Law Enacted: 1999
HOW DARK CAN WINDOW TINT BE IN CALIFORNIA?

Darkness of tint is measured by Visible Light Transmission percentage (VLT%). In California, this percentage refers to percentage of visible light allowed in through the combination of film and the window.

Front Side Windows Must allow more than 70% of light in.
Back Side Windows Any darkness can be used.
Rear Window Any darkness can be used.

The cop should have known you were in the legal limits, why in the world did he say he was going to give you a ticket for tints? Was he just full of it?

You got it backwards.

He has 35% tint in the front...meaning that 35% of the light is getting through. To be in the legal zone, he needed to have 70%, which is pointless since stock is what, 85%?

I've never heard of that before. Let's assume what was stated was true, then by his definition...limo tint, which is 5%, would be legal since it has 95% light going through? Obviously this is not the case because 5% is pretty damn dark.

+1 the guy has it backwards. a 70% tint is legal in the front, but that's nothing. so anything less like a 30% tint which lets in 30% of light, is illegal
