Just changed over to my Michelin PSS 18 inch summer staggered tires

Average temperatures are reaching between 40 and 50 of these days, and dropping down to 36 at night.

I wonder if I did it too soon, but to be honest I had a sidewall bubble in one of my winter tires in the front passenger side, and had an opportunity to get the summers on today, so I took it.

I guess better than having a sidewall blow out I suppose...

I'm actually on tirerack right now just staring off to space wondering if I want another set of 19" staggered PSS.

Edit: if I can "afford" another set of 19" staggered PSS.

i know your pain. i wanted to switch to my summers too but there is so much road damage, rocks and everything all over the place. I went to put my oem 193 wheels on until it's cleaned up and forgot when i got them years back one rear tire was slashed in the side wall

i just want my winters off already

Yeah definitely brother!

Unfortunately, my decision was helped along ahead of schedule by the side wall bubble that was threatening to blow out on me at any time, so I took the chance.

I just hope they don't suffer any sort of structural compromise due to these low evening temps...

i don't think they will at all. they definitely won't have the grip or ride quality that they normally do in warm weather. i think that's the only thing thats really compromised.

I put my summers on this weekend, but took them off yesterday. Too many potholes and salt still on the road. Will wait another few weeks.

It also gives me the opportunity to install new TPMS, so I don't mind waiting, I suppose.

But, I feel your pain. Longest winter ever...

Just went to Costco and they had staggered 19 PSS installed for roughly the same price as tirerack shipped. It's making it hard to resist.

These car eating potholes were enough to stop me from slapping my 199 19 inch wheels back on this year.

I've got another thread going on a good "three season" all-season tire that I can run early March through early December before putting on my snows, but obviously the other option is to go with a real summer tire.

With your PSS, how early/late in the year do you usually take those off? For Syracuse the average low doesn't get up to 40 until late-April and hits 40 again in mid-October. Does that sound like a reasonable timeframe? That puts me at 6-months on my summers and 6 months on my winters. Any comments on excessive winter tire wear?

Yea, this winter opened up crater highway. I might just take my 19s an just get the PSS mounted but leave them off the car for now.

Your timeframe sounds reasonable. Last year, I ran my PSS from late March/early April till late October. I've never had a set of winters, my winter set is actually DWS. The area around me gets cleaned pretty fast, so my DWS + my AWD is enough to get me around.

I used to live (and still drive in and out on a weekly basis) in Erie, PA. I keep a separate set of wheels for winter use and fully expect to run them 6 months out of the year.

I'd probably still have my winter wheels on right now if not for the fact that the driver side front developed a bulge in the sidewall. I even went so far as just replacing 2 tires, but after 2 weeks, I could tell either the DSC system or transfer case wasn't liking the mismatched tires.

Right now, I settled on putting Bridgestone Potenza RE960as RFT on the summer 17" wheels. I don't think I can actually push the Michelin PSS to the limit, but gained RFT, 40k treadwear warranty, and so far, these don't ride as harsh as expected.
